On a slightly spirited drive to work this morning, i managed to cook the standard brakes on my 1.4 6n. To say they're naff is putting it lightly :-D

The discs and pads aren't that old and the fluid has been renewed recently. what can i do to improve my brakes? can i upgrade to a bigger caliper/disc/pad set up off another model? if so which one? looking at them i t looks like the retainer is part of the hub. One last thing, i still have my oe sport rader 13" alloys.

i had same prb i replaced the disc with euro cars vented discs and eicher pads and the differance is great not brilliant but at least 3 times better than standard i have a 1.4 8v and they stop me on a pin

You can change to the larger units used on the 6N 16v models, which will require the hubs, carriers, calipers, pads and discs. And also at least 14" wheels as they won't fit under the normal sport rader alloys.

Or if you want even more 280mm units from a G60 which will again require the hubs from a 16v and then the rest of the items from the G60.

Depends how much you want to spend. Could do as sheffield Rick81 suggested and get better discs and pads, and also for a bit more you could get braided hoses to replace the normal flexi rubber items.

Cool, so do the 16v and 8v's run the same shafts then? Will hopefully be upgrading to 15's soon, so looks like i'll go the 16v way. :-)
