I was driving along a dual carridgeway last night and suddenly noticed a pothole that must have been like 8 inch's deep, and across half of my lane. I tried my best to avoid it but there was no hope really as i didnt see it until the last minute.

My car scraped through it and made a rough noise as my rear wheel hit the lip of it. after this the wheel was making an odd taping noise :( I pulled over to check it out and there where several huge bit's of rubber hangin off my tyre, with slices about an inch into the tread of my tire. Aswell as this the wheel obviously caught my arch cause it's bent bit's of it down, cracking the paint!

Dont know where i stand legally with this? is it possible to claim compensation on this kinda thing? i can see them just turning around and saying your car's lowered.. it wouldnt of happened to any other car. managed to bend the arch back this morning, and the tire hasnt gone down or anything.. but with so much cut into the tread it's not gunna be MOT'able anymore :(

Take's the piss that they cant fix things like this.. they have put up a load of temporary flashing signs saying "Uneven road surface" "Temporary road surface" etc.. they've been there for about a month now, and the pot-hole's are only getting worse... surley it costs more money to have these signs up with power than to just pull their bloody finger out and fill in the pot-holes..

Discuss/Help would be greeaattt (In a tony the tiger kinda way) :)

Dont even get me started on the conditions of the road around by me, there are better condition dirt tracks in Kenya than the roads in shropshire

your tyre is cut to shreads because your wheals are 2 big and foul your arches

to pass a mot your tyres MUST NOT hit or come into contact with the bodywork full lock on front and susmension tavel on rear

fit stiffer springs so no suspension travel

or run smaller wheals lower profile tyres

my wheels are 15" polo wheels.. and my suspension is stiff as hell (90mm drop on coilies), i have never had any problems with them before?

They dont hit the suspension on rear, and i can turn full lock no problem.

send us spme fotos of your wheal tyre that got damaged perfer still fitted to the car

it sounds like your tyre is nackered from hitting your car bodywork not the pothole

the proof will be in the fotos of the nackered tyre fitted and removed from the car

The poor cars get so much abuse getting anywhere. Its unreal. The council have said apparently its cheaper to pay out for claims than it is to fix the holes properly. What a joke!!!

Yea, i think it is from hitting the bodywork cause the arch had been pulled out by the tyre.

That's why I'm asking if their's anything i can do about it. it was hitting the pot-hole that caused my wheel to hit the bodywork, which has never happened before :(

dont think theres mutch you can do about it realy what if when you take your car for mot and they deside to sit 4 carmechanics in your car to makeshore your tyres dont hit your arch FAIL

theres nowt you can do about it other than do things to stop it from happening again like fit smaller wheals

Thats exactly it!!! Takes the piss it really does. People are falling off their bikes. Tripping in the holes. Going up the back of people who are dodging the holes. Its ridiculous. Hopefully they will do something about it before i get my G on the road.

I like that you can "report a pothole" can i just put a big stamp over the uk? haha.

There is actually quite alot you can do, a friend of mine recently hit a HUGE pothole, it ripped her tyre up fucked the wheel and completely messed up all the tracking and balance. Anyway, she got it all fixed and paid for by the council.

Best thing to do is go on your local council website and there are some claim forms somewhere.

I think you have to pay to whomever to get it fixed first, so your local garage or wherever and get the receipts as proof.

I'd suggest taking photos of the damage and the pothole location aswell.

They can't simply deny you because your car is lowered, because as an owner of road tax you pay. The roads are meant to be smooth (dunno if anyone has been on the M4 near swansea, but that is simply what roads should be like), anyway if it is like a norwegian rally course then the council aren't completing their part of the bargain which is to maintain the roads.

Thinking myself of making a claim soon as my tracking was perfect the day before yesterday, my steering sat straight and true when accelerating through all gears, but now after hitting a trench coming up a hill near me it pulls left when accelerating. Not by much but it's enough to piss me off seeing as I'm paying to use the road.
