Buying my first car , polo 6n.

Featured Replies

Hello clubpolo users,

I have mainly been around here looking around at the majority of threads and photoshoping things for people. Times have come to now buy polo.

Sorry if this is in the incorrect place or there in a thread like this.

I will be looking at potential buying a 1997 petrol 1.4 polo tomorrow (6n)

This will be my first car so I’m a bit sceptical about things, I have never owned a car previously.

I would like to ask you guys that own polos about common things that go wrong with polos , mechanically and just in general. The car I am looking at appears to be in perfect condition outside , not a scratch or dent. I’m not sure about rust , that’s what I will be looking at tomorrow

It has covered 80,000 miles, is there anything that should have been covered in services before this that I should be aware of in any documentation they have?

Anything basically that I should be looking out for when buying this car would be fantastic

Cheers , Martin.

(Hopefully if everything goes ahead ill be a club polo member within the next week)

gearbox and cambelt, if u take it for a test drive make sure it goes into 5th and reverse and doesnt slip out. Also at that mileage might be worth asking if the cambelt has been done
