a mate of mine asked me to swap his stock 1.4 16v mk4 golf to 1.8T power, i told him to get the parts and i'd do it for him.

got to my mates unit at 10am sunday and stuck the car on the ramps and have a look at the little 1.4 before it was pulled out

projects-21310002.jpg

set about getting it out ( through the front as usual)

projects-21310003.jpg

wasn't too long before it was out

projects-21310004.jpg

also dropped the subframe out to fit the new rack and wishbone bushes

projects-21310005.jpg

before the new lump was to find it's new home Ed had decided he was going to do it right and handed me a cambelt kit and water pump which i fitted

projects-21310006.jpg

projects-21310007.jpg

and clutch kit

projects-21310010.jpg

also cleaned out the bellhousing a bit ready to be refitted

projects-21310009.jpg

now the box was fitted up and the engine was ready to go in, fitted the new engine mounts to the bay the got it perched

projects-21310013.jpg

got most of the pipes and loom connected and refitted the subframe with the new rack, wishbone bushes, 312mm hubs/ brakes and driveshafts

projects-21310015-1.jpg

also took the environmental bits out to tidy things up a bit.

projects-21310014-1.jpg

then my battery died in the camera [:DD]

there were a few parts shy so i gave him a day to run round and source the missing parts - so back to it tuesday with the missing items, i also got these from my parts cupboard that were missing and knocked up a blanking plate for the sai system

parts

projects-22310001.jpg

and sai blank

now it was all together but there was no spark on any plugs so after running tests on the loom it appeared the ECU was up the duffer, i lent him my ecu of the bora and it fired up first time. so ran it up and dropped all the fluids and replaced fresh, he's been sourcing a new ecu so should have it later today so i can refit the scuttle and wipers and watch him drive off up the road with an extra 105bhp in non mapped form.

i'll get some 100% completed pics later.

and that took you all of two days =O damn i wish i had mates like you lol but then again would be considerable more work on a polo =D

top job mate....so whats your list of conversions so far then??

  • Author

thanks bud, not sure i could list them, be in the region of 40 i'd think.

the thing is i'll always give a price for the job before i do it and allow for a little extra in case of issues so there's no point taking longer than needed and dragging out a job, as long as it's all done right then the sooner it's done the better for everyone.

haha thanks chaps :-)

took it for it's MOT today, fitted the engine cover and got some quick pics

i'd have liked to give it a proper clean but Edd either had to be somewhere or really wanted to go driving it so took it as it was.
