Hey guys, really thinking of buying a Mk3 VR6,

Will also be keeping the polo tho :p

But basically if anyone knows anything helpfull about them it would be great to know:)

So really anything I should look out for when looking etc.

mk3s are notorious for rust. mainly on the sills!

Basically, they have two good things about them, the torque and the noise. Everything else is dread. The body's a mk3 golf, so rust and the spaniard styling. The economy's shocking (most people agree on anbout 18-24mpg). The build's spanish.

If you want a 6 pot, do what I did and go jap.

mk3 golfs are shit car's, any one that disagrees probably has one and can't afford to sell it thanks to depreciation and the fact it's rotting away around their ears

the VR6 is no better than a standard mk3, infact it's worse because this was their flagship golf, it deserved to be a shit load better, unfortunately it was just shit. you will get bored of the noise soon enough and you'll be stuck with a heavy, lazy, ugly car. it took me about 4 weeks to get bored of the noise and then no one wanted to buy it thanks to rising fuel costs and the fact it was a mk3 golf

Personally I think MK3's look really nice with the right mods.

Mk3 Golf's are quite poo. They aren't standing up to the test of time like the older golfs and my god are they ugly.

Corrado's are cool and look nice but as mentioned above for a decent 6 pot you're best off looking at other brands.

It's funny how the Corrado VR6 is considered one of the cars you must drive before you die, best handling front wheel drive car ever, etc, yet the Mk3 VR6 in standard form is just shit.

It's funny how the Corrado VR6 is considered one of the cars you must drive before you die, best handling front wheel drive car ever, etc, yet the Mk3 VR6 in standard form is just shit.

To be honest, I never liked Corrados either.

Best handling standard front wheel drive car I've ever driven was my old AX GT.

Look out for the Cam chains. As they start to stretch at about 80000-90000 miles. And is a big job to replace them. Also look out for the clucth. Plus finally look out for the ABS light. It should light up and then after a couple of second the light should go out. But make sure the light actually comes on. As if there is a problem with the ABS most people remove the fuse for that light, so that it would light up. Hope that helps. Good luck in finding one

i think the mk3 golf is rated a bit unfairly, at the end of the day its only a hatchback that is over 10 years old so you cant expect some kind of supercar

that said, when i was considering getting a gti colour concept mk3 time ago, I'm glad i went for an e36 coupe in the end lol

i think the mk3 golf is rated very fairly, it's not being compared to a supercar, it just has the unfortunate occurrence of being compared to it's 20 year old hatchback older brother, which is a much better car in every way tbh.

Exactly, I'm a fan of how most Golfs can look, in terms on the VW scene, but as a general car enthusiast I can see where you're coming from..

What was the 2.0 8v.. like 118bhp? and god knows how much heavier than the Mk2, which is the Golf i'd choose all day long for a proper drivers car.

But i'll always say it.. the Japs had it nailed.. EK9 CTR.. 1.6 16v, 180bhp and an awesome chassis
