I'd prefer a G60 in a Rado :D

g60 in a mk2 8-) win win

G60's are a massive disappointment imo, kinda like the VR6. you heard every one banging on about them and you think 'these must go pretty well', the you go in one and it's like 'is that really it?'

i think the mk3 golf is rated a bit unfairly, at the end of the day its only a hatchback that is over 10 years old so you cant expect some kind of supercar

i think the mk3 golf is rated very fairly, it's not being compared to a supercar, it just has the unfortunate occurrence of being compared to it's 20 year old hatchback older brother, which is a much better car in every way tbh.

Exactly, I'm a fan of how most Golfs can look, in terms on the VW scene, but as a general car enthusiast I can see where you're coming from..

What was the 2.0 8v.. like 118bhp? and god knows how much heavier than the Mk2, which is the Golf i'd choose all day long for a proper drivers car.

But i'll always say it.. the Japs had it nailed.. EK9 CTR.. 1.6 16v, 180bhp and an awesome chassis :smirk:

not quite they forgot to add the torque ;)

Still fast, the figures speak for themselves as long as you know how to drive one..

My old Geog teacher had an EP CTR and thought it was slow, I asked her when she changed gear and she said about 4k

preference really. i also dont put too much faith into figures. i chased some asians in a square headlight shape CTR that was giving it death in the 318is and it was quicker but really not as fast as people make them out to be. in my mates old 328i could easily rinse type Rs etc

i prefer torque low down in the revs, means you can drive 'quickly' most of the time without having to give it all out death

Hey guys, really thinking of buying a Mk3 VR6,

Will also be keeping the polo tho :p

But basically if anyone knows anything helpfull about them it would be great to know:)

So really anything I should look out for when looking etc.

Thanks

Adam.

Check timing chains have been done if it is leading up to or just over the 100k mile mark and likewise with the clutch.

Check the underside sills for rust, impact marks and twisted hammered sills from being jacked up in the wrong place.

Check the front wings and lower parts of the wings behind the wheel guards and next to the sills for more rust.

ABS warning light on the right side of the clocks usually blows or the ABS pump can give up.

Depending on what your ideas for it are, I would recommend dropping the ride height. Standard VR golfs ride too high for the performance.

Other than that, if it looks good and you're satisfied, enjoy it and make your own mind up about the car.

The mk3 was always going to get shit, a GTI that in 8v form is easily beaten by a bog 1.6 carb from the previous range?

I'm not to sure as mine is shit hahaha, my mates 1.25 fiesta will leave my 1.6 golf without batting an eye lid

i get this shit with my fuckin polo does my nut in

just my polo feels fast cos of all the noise it makes

ABF, surprisingly fuel efficient. Had 44.4MPG the other day. Can't really argue with that out of a 2.0 16V!

drove a mk3 gti colour concept 8v for a few months.

there not slow but dont deserve the GTI badge, apart from car park dents it was mint, Not 1 rusty patch. well looked after :)

Wouldnt say mk3s are boring tbh.

I had a little drag race with a mk3 gti and he was trying and got done lol it was one of those situation where 2 lanes merge into one after a set of traffic light's. I was driving normal and he tried to get infront of me so i droped into second got in front. It was some little chavy guy in a shitly done up mk3 so i couldent resist having a go, tbh i was not expeting to get infront, dident relise how slow they are. dont know wether it was a 8v or 16v.

on to the topic all I know about vr6's is they sound lovly but arent all that

Wouldnt say mk3s are boring tbh.

they so are

for proof check out what happens in this video (skip to 2 mins in if you have a short attention span lol)

they are

Yeah, my VTR pulled more power than a Mk3 8v GTI at a rolling road day, and I've got a 1/4 of a ton less to carry about, no point even wasting petrol on a race with one lol

mk3's suck balls, mk2's are the way foward.

I've out accelerated a VTR in the polo, and the GTI i drove round seem quicker than my GT.

Guessing your vtr isnt standerd tho

guessing phase II with little mods?

how do you find your 16v? i fucking loved my old one and sill regret getting rid. no matter how shitty i was feeling, just a few mins in the lanes in that thing and i would be grinning from ear to ear, it was so much fun. worst thing is i swapped it for a mk3 VR6 and regretted it after less than 5 mins :x

Yeah it's a lightly modded phase 2. It's pretty much neck and neck with a VTS to the end of 4th.
