car I.D. for HPI check

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to get a car's VIN Number / V5 doc number for an HPI check?

Looking at a few cars at auction over Easter bank holidays... but would naturally like to have an HPI check done before bidding. Have the reg No.'s & mileages, but some the docs aren't with the auction house yet so they can't provide them to me.

Tried the direct.gov but nothing immediately apparant there (suprise suprise.. uselss big central gov. website). VIC check just gives a damage history by the looks of it.

Stumped :/

the only way to do this is to ask the seller direct mate if they are not willing to give out the details in order for you to do you check then you no that they are hiding something so dont buy it!!

its a pain in the arse having to ring up or email every time but its the best way bud when buying a car!!!!

If it's at a commercial auction, the indemnity you pay on top of the hammer price at most auctions is a guarantee that the car is HPI clea, milage is as given and usually, the car is free from undescribed major fault. Once you've bought it, if you want to, do the checks, and should it not pass, you just take it back and give your reasons.

Check the terms of sale though.
