not a clue how to fix it mate but if you just hold the gearstick in reverse so it dont pop out should be alright.

Mines been doing it since i bought the car and its been fine to me.

Try sticking it into 2nd gear, then shift it down to reverse. Its a common fix for polo's  Yours aint too bad, when I had my new clutch put in, i couldnt get into 1st for shiet.. had to shift up to 3rd, then 2nd then into first each time.

new gearbox FTL?

Wouldnt suprise me.

in my 6n this happend, it was wining for a few weeks before, eventuly it just went, is your box wining when you decelerate in gear? had to get a re-conditioned gearbox and had the clutch done at the same time, cost me £550, and that was with the cheapest labour (family rates)

Doesnt realy whine or anything, it used to pop out of reverse now it decides not to go in reverse on random occations, like today for example it whent into reverse 3 times straight away, then after that it didnt want to. any ideas?

Well it's either the box is actually on it's way out (and just being very temperomental) or your selector mechanisms could do with adjusting.

Unless.. maybe your clutch cable has slipped a bit.. but that would normally make it more likely to slip than stop you from selcting gears.

Try adjusting your gear linkage is possible..

Then try adjusting the clutch cable..

If that doesn't help, I can't think what else it is other than a tired box? Even if you don't replace it and get it recon'd that's gonna be shit loads of dolla :(

My mk3 did this, sometimes it's just something really simple. Get your gaitor off and spray a load of WD40 down there, shift the gears between sprays to get it all lubed up. This might solve your issue.

I know someone whos a vw mechanic so I'm getting him to look at it for me, he said he will rebuild the box for £150 if it needs doing :)

buddy from the sound of it i am only gona give you this advice as i have had it to my cars is it really stiff to get in reverse and sum times it doesnt go then before replacing you are gearbox make sure you go under the car and adjust you are selector as they are common to mess up if your box was gona then you would hear lots of noice as i did LOL but on a a serious note mate its you are selector get that checked if your local to staffordshire then bring it to me i will sort it out for u hope that helps.
