Thule Rapid Aero Roofbars, footing kit and bike carrier.

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Firstly, I'm sorry to register to just sell something, but hopefully someone will benefit from the recent reluctant sale of my Polo GTi :-(

I have the roofrack which I added to the car about 18 months ago - it comprises of -

Thule 108cm Aero Roofrack Bars - Part No. 860

Thule Polo Footing kit - Part No. 3007

Thule 591 Bike Carrier (the type that grabs the downtue of the bike)

All part of what Thule call their 'rapid' system and was bought for my W Plate 2000 GTi. It looks great (well, for a roofrack! - way better than the square section halfords alternatives!) and an absolute piece of cake to fit - takes roughly 15 minutes and needs only a 5mm allen key.

System comes with locks for the footing kit, locks for the bike carrier and additional locks for the ends of the aero bars. Long story short - the only way any scumbag's gonna nick your rack or bike is by nicking the car - or peeling the roof off!!

The roofrack has served me really well and recently did an epic 1000 mile, 15 hour drive to the South of France with not a single problem. The whole system cost me about £235 when I bought it.

3 very minor snags!

1- Two keys were left in the South of France - so system comes with 4 keys instead of 6 - very cheap and easy to replace through Halfords or Thule direct.

2- I ditched the plastic straps that Thule provide to clamp the wheels in place, I have deep carbon fibre wheels on my bike and couldn't bare the thought of hard plastic rubbing against them - I replaced them with soft fabric woven straps. An upgrade IMO!

3- The tray that the rear wheel sits it is missing a metal fixer, still stays on perfectly well but I want to be totally honest! Will cost about £3 to replace!

The kit may very well fit other VWs with similar housing on the roof. Worth checking out. Can provide any measurements you might need, just gimme a shout.

£100.

I don't have access to forums etc at my work place but can pick up emails, texts and phone calls usually no problem. I'm either on stephenkelly@live.co.uk or 07707 326 274 - If I don't answer it's just because I'm arguing with the missus - drop me a text and I'll call back asap!

Stephen

Ps. I'm in Leeds and am now car-less so will struggle to deliver, it's quite heavy to post but could be arranged, pick up would be ideal...
