Amusements/Trade Stalls etc

Featured Replies

Hello all :)

I'm a member of the R32 Owners Club and I'm the organiser of www.r-fest.co.uk which is running on the field next to the Club Polo show on the same weekend at Billing Aquadrome.

I'm also the previous owner of Yoof's (now mental) red Polo GT, a moderator on UK-Polos and have owned four VW Polo's previously, as well as attending the first Polo Shows in 2003 & 2004 which were just brilliant and a credit to the owners who made it happen. Hoping for the same weather this year!! :-D

This is the first time I have organised something on this scale and I'm determined to ensure that people leave happy. Having looked at previous threads on here from last year the main criticsms people had was another club (I won't name names) who was on the same field as you and also the lack of Event Specific items such as amusements and Trade. The last thing I want is for people to get off on the wrong foot just because we drive different cars, so I feel that a little intergration between might go a long way :)

I'm in talks with various Trade people (including Volkswagen Racing in Milton Keynes who seem interested in having a vehicle and Merchandise stand there) in order that people have the ability to buy merchandise and parts and also looking into renting a (large) Marquee that we could potentially share.

Now, the main issue that stops this as usual is the cost factor. But my thinking is that if we can join together as Clubs in order to absorb the 'Entertainment' costs we can, as a whole, make it a much better event for everyone involved and also dissolve any possibilities of the 'nastiness' of the previous year ;)

I'm not sure who is actually organising the Polo Show, but if you are interested in working together please drop me a message :)

Thanks for reading :)

sounds like a good idea to me :) i'll let panda know about this thread when i speak to him shortly and i'll get him to contact you.

Sounds a real good idea. Theres always been a lack of trade/amusements at this show which causes peopel to get blindly drunk (which may not be a bad thing) but needs something a little extra to bring in more people than in previous years. Would be good to get afew different companies on baord selling their wares as it gives people something to look over whilst walking about.

You'd have to speak to the owners of Biling aquadrome to see what their thoughts on trade stands are as iirc, this has been discussed in previous years.

Theres usually a marquee organised by our club which gets used for bits n bobs but as the rental cost is quite high (£700+!!) i'm sure they'd be willing to share the cost out and come to a decent understanding so that it gets used for something decent.

Anyway, theres nowt wrong with R32s. I know i'd have one if i could afford to buy one ;)

The thing with trade stands is, its all good for the golf owners. But if you own a polo then theres nout on them to buy.

Same with all shows, there full of golf stuff and nothing polo related.

In that respect i think trade stands will in no way help the poloshow (unless its PPP/PPS/poloace/PhilJ etc) <<< which would be good if they did have some stands there btw

As for the problems with the other group, the VR6 lot where being a pain due to billing double booking the field, they wanted it all and had about 10 cars. We obv had about 7x that but they still didn't understand why they got shoved into the corner.

There was another group (MK4 owners) who where on the field next to us that where fine. We walked around there cars and they walked around ours, all was happy family's.

I don't see why it would be a problem if we where on different fields but shared the marquee etc. As long as we don't start invading each-others plots.

Would be good if there was some form of entertainment and if it was a bit more lively this year.

Agreed. Any business who wished to sell gear would have to make sure that they cater for everyone there and not just a minority.

I cant see how 10 cars needed such a large field all to themselves unless they smelt! Maybe for the Polo show to evolve, it needs to build on the downfalls of previous years whilst adding a new spark (i.e, entertainment at night) to keep the people coming back every year.

whilst adding a new spark (i.e, entertainment at night) to keep the people coming back every year.

Like last year getting gassed out the marguee by a car being revved in it at night..!

Reminds me of 2007 when my GT was in there with the stereo on rather loud

Just to point out, we are in no way related to the VR6OC ;) So far we have, but subject to change;

Marriott Motor Group; owns VW/Audi Dealers and is bringing a few Polo/Golf/obselete parts. VAG Coolant and merchandise etc and a Golf/Rocco R depending on whats about.

Chorley Car Audio

Pure Detail (Detailing Specialist)

TT Shop/TTS Roadsport

VW Racing may be a possibility but they say yes on the phone and never return my calls :x

I'm also going to have a word with Volkswagen UK to see if they can get a new Polo GTi there just for show.

As it stands we've just bought a Gazebo, although not a £700 hire badboy like yourselves, maybe next year when we know how many people are going to come. We're expecting around 50-60 cars a day and we have hired Teal Meadow for the weekend which is literally opposite yourselves.

I don't see any 'problems' arising unless if the Billing Security do there job probably, which didn't seem to be the case last year!

Have you had any feedback from our admin?

I see this as an excellent step forward. Something to mull over sunday morning before the show & shine.

No response yet. But not a problem, just wanted everyone to know we were there :-p

we are not going to have a marquee this year due to the large cost and lack of things to fill it with, people just trashed everything last year so its really not worth it! We have quite a large gazeebo so will probably just use that.

I think there was a problem with the amount of electricity supply we could have on that part of the site, which meant we couldn't have anything that involved using a too large power supply.

I am the one that booked the field, so i guess i'm one of the main organisers. I have been contacted by a couple of food traders who i have asked to send me details so we can make sure that they provide enough of a selection, i have said they are fine to pitch up in our field and that they will do quite well for trade with all the other clubs there. We haven't done anything about other external traders, as has been said before there isn't much thats polo specific, I guess it all depends on the costs involved but send me a pm when you have more details and we can work something out.

it could work so any supplier who wanted to attend had to show an equal amount of various parts for each vehicle? Going by the kind of trade at springfest though, it was either tat or golf parts :(

Yeah guys i really think this could be a wicked idea so hope we can work a deal would be nice to see the Big Brother Cars about and the food sounds good just hopefully not ONLY the weird foreign doughnuts from last year as i would of killed for a burger! LOL

Anyone spoke to the people of clublupo about this? As they are there too.

Heres details on whats happening on our side. I'm trying to get some Polo bits (oil filters etc) to bring along but all depends on how much space we have. A MK3 slam panel is up for grabs on our obselete list though ;) So be quick on Saturday morning.

Hey Nelson, if someone couldn't remember their password for the R32OC, could you help them out at all?

Cheers,
