I have a Flash Red polo, i know the color code to get, and i've been told that halfords paint doesn't match up well at all.

The paint on my car isn't faded, so i'm wondering where is the best place to buy aerosol spray paint?

VW will supply it, but your paint will have faded somewhat in 13 years even if it doesn't look pink it won't look like it did then.

Okay, Will it be expensive to get it from a dealer? Or will it just be better off getting halfords to mix it up, and then getting some g3 compound on it in a few weeks time?

its like most things, u pay for what u get, may aswel do it right the first time, as apposed to using halfords stuff, realising it looks gash then payin to do it properly. :)

I've got a 10 year old polo and i got halfords to make my colour up using the colour code thats on my car and it was a perfect match.

go to the dealer and have it done right i had halfrauds make some up and as said it looks erm gash to be true

Got one of their employees on the site as well.

Never used them for paint, but Morleys in Allenton do mixed to spec aerosols apparently.

I'm gonna nip into the dealer tommorow and check.

If too expensive, i'll check the morleys place out.

And then if needs be it looks like i'll get halfords to mix up a color code for me =]

i also agree as long as you use the right primer also! i have the same colour as you< i used grey primer and you cannot tell where i have sprayed at all

Morleys on Ozzy Rd mix paint, but for using in a gun.

Paint is mixed in batches when manufacturers use it on new cars. One batch will be slightly different from another, these are known as variants (i.e. there is more than one shade of flash red). If you want a perfect colour match, you need someone to get their colour charts out and find the variant that your car was painted in and possibly adjust it accordingly. You never know, the paint from halfords might be the correct colour, however if somone is mixing it to your car your more likely to get it right.

Also, as said above, even though your paint doesnt seem like it has faded, it will have. Some blending when your painting will most likely be required.

buddy its not the paint its gona be the lacqure thats gona cause you problems make sure u get a 2K lacqure if you want a good finish, after that compound the whole car with a 3G it should match just fine, any more help just hola me.

I found some halfords clear lacquer in the garage.. good or bad?

not sure I've found halfords paint sometimes reacts to other make paints!

I'll test it out and see before i use it.

Its coming from the dealer, so i'll check if i need to lacquer it.

From my very limited experience of buying aerosols from VW for my mk3, it's a much better match and coverage than off the shelf Halfords etc., but is in a much smaller can too, so the price might be a bit misleading.
