Comments: I have owned this car since June 2008 and I bought it completely standard. I am the second owner and I love it to bits ☺

I thought I had started a wip but I can’t find it so I must have made it up in my head! So its time I sat down and do one! All comments welcome. Good or bad. Enjoy!!

This is how i bought the car................

As you can see from the last picture the wheels had started to peel and corrode and this is a well known problem with the standard wheels. A few weeks in and they got ten times worse so this became priority number 1!!

I decided to refurb them myself :) (good idea in my head- seemed simple)

List of things i used...

*wet and dry grades 200, 400, 800, 1000 and 1500 to finish.

*wire wool

*auto sol

*sanding blocks

*paint stripper/ thinner

From here its pretty straight forward it just takes time!!

First i painted the lip with paint thinner to remove the bits of hardened laquer left. I then used the 200 grit sandpaper wrapped around the sanding bloc to rub down the bare metal. repeated this process with grit 400 then 800 the 1000 and 1500 to finish. I then used wire wool with auto sol to remove any of the faint lines left by the 1500 grit and to buff to a shine.

Here are the before and after pics....

The next thing i did was changed my discs and pads. I used mintex discs as they were quite cheap and needed to be done and i put greenstuff pads all round. Whilst i had my wheels off i repainted my calipers red.

DSC00040.jpg

I then invested in some red spray paint and sprayed a red line all around my grill and purchased a set of euro badges. (I used red spray paint around my grill because i found that red electrical tape faded far too quickly for me to be bothered to replace it every week!)

So this is how my car looked after a few subtle mods.........

DSC00015.jpg

Then i purchased a bonnet bra, a black front badge and a black rear badge for £70..... (crappy phone camera)

DSC00019.jpg

And on the car..............

DSC00022.jpg

DSC000190.jpg

I'm not gonna lie, a week or so after i fitted the rear black badge i started to dislike it. It wasnt the look i wanted and i wanted it off. I think it would have looked 100% better on a darker colour polo.

After the badges and bra i bought a K&N panel filter. I didnt buy it for performance just to allow more air intake.

DSC_0908.jpg

So out with the old..................

DSC_0909.jpg

And in with the new................. Ta daaa!!

DSC_0906.jpg

After that came the most important thing of all!!! Lowering springs!!

I was very undecided whether to get springs or coilovers. If money wasnt an issue id choose coilovers every day of the week but i finally found some 60mil drop springs!! And at a bargain of a price. (i think the were about 60 quid)

DSC00094.jpg

DSC00095.jpg

And i finally purchased my dreamy summer wheels............

DSC00091.jpg

So adam kindly fitted my summer wheels and springs one day whilst i was at work and i came home to my polo looking completely different!!

I still dont think I'm satisfied with the ride height. I reckon the springs have only lowered it about 40mil.

Still really want coilovers but adam thinks i will smash my side sills up and end up ripping off my front bumper but I'm still trying to convince him!!

After this i got my front splitter colour coded to the car to make the front end seem more chunky and appear lower!!

So this is how it looked!!

DSC_0047.jpg

DSC_0401.jpg

Also check out the front camber haha

DSC_0051.jpg

After these biggish mods i carried on doing small things that make all the difference!!

i bought and fitted some aero wipers which i think look really really good :D

DSC_0036.jpg

looks good, Nice progress.

lol at camber, you can sort that. Better than scrubbing tyres!

Wheel refurb looks sweet, are they bare metal now? Or did you paint over them? Have to keep on top of the polishing to stop them corroding again. Mine are pretty bad, but there winter wheels so i dont care

You just need leather now :p

i finally got rid of my black rear badge and colour coded my original vw badge and fitted it back in its rightful place hehe.

I also invested in a stuby ariel so my polo didnt look like a remote control car anymore.....

DSC_0048.jpg

I then replaced my grey rear view mirror with a smaller black mirror from a mk4 polo.

I thinks this looks better because you dont have a blob of grey stuck on the windscreen :)

And i decided to take off my headlight protectors as they were getting really dull and hiding my shiny spanking headlights!! I know it sounds stupid but i think my car looks smaller without them on................

DSC_0412.jpg

I still want to go lower and there are still things that i want done.

I want my bumpers smoothed and then the rest of things to be done are a lot more subtle and not as pricey!!

(eventually it need a 1.8T going in the engine bay hehe :D)

I have decided that i want porsche teledials for winter wheels but maybe in a odd colour.

finally got round to uploading pictures :)

So to start off I've got rid of my back badge and replaced it with a sticker...

Out with the old....

And in with the new..........

DSC_0033.jpg

And I've purchased myself a new aerial

Its tiny in compared to my civic one...

DSC_0026.jpg

DSC_0027.jpg

Replaced my indicator/side light lenses as mine were getting a little mouldy round the inside seal...

DSC_0019.jpg

DSC_0035.jpg

Nice and new :)

So yeah thats it so far! Gotta pick my teledials up at some point this week and need to decide on a colour!

Probably best to get them on my car and do a bit of photoshop work

looks good, Nice progress.

Yeah i got the camber sorted. Just had the geo done :) Not low enough to NEED camber :)

i left them bare metal. I've seen a few sets sprayed and i didn't really like the finish but they're sound as winters.

I quite like my cloth seats tbh. The leathers never bothered me. Maybe in time!

Right so I've got my teledials and I've had the tyres taken off and sold on and now heres whats left :)

DSC_0702.jpg

So starting to prep them for powdercoating. Removed the valves and started using a 150 wet and dry and then finished with wire wool.

So here is how they look so far........

DSC_0709.jpg

Think i want them this colour...

ultima12.jpg

Dont want to go silver or anthracite or black :)

Went to the powdercoating place today and they dont do a colour close enough to the one I'm after.

Sooooo.... i now have the wheels booked in at Turning Heads. Turning heads is an amazing spray bodywork place near me.

They are gonna prep the wheels for me and spray the backs black, Spray the fronts the colour they have mixed for me, Keep the black background on the porsche crest on the centre caps, and polish the shield on the centre caps.

So just gotta drop the wheels off tomorrow and picking my adaptors up on friday

Just a quick peak at new wheels fresh from paint.

DSC_0965-3.jpg

They dont look as orange in the flesh.

Decided on plans for my BBS RM. Gonna buy 2inch dishes for the back and 1.5inch dishes for the front :)

My polo goes in the body shop tomorrow!

I will get it back around the 7th April (with a nice bill!)

Then my coilovers will be fitted and my new wide freshly sprayed bbs rms!

Then its off to get the geo done and speed bumps here i come!!

I want to get it as low as possible but i still want to be able to full lock. I dont want to be stupid low. But low enough that my wide wheels look good not stupid

I'm stretching 195/45/15s on 8j and 7.5j wheels so there will be a very slight stretch on them but nothing major

These are 8j with 195/45/15s

Liking the colour on the teledials, look similar to the colour of mine.

where you get the wipers and how much were they?

Eurocarparts. They were about 2.50 each. Prob more expensive now tho!

Liking the progress! Looks a lot different to the last time I saw it (PSI Tuning open day, seems like aaaages ago). Get yourself signed up on Dubshire for a local meet or two! :)

Yeah Psi show does seem a long time ago!

Will check that forum out. Thanks!

Going bodyshop in 10 mins so pictures will be added sooooon! Stay tuned!

Day 2 in the body shop and there has been talk of me getting it back before Sunday :) good times.

When we got there to take some pics the car was outside looking sorry for itself.

DSC_0068.jpg

Front bumper is almost done smooth wise now.

DSC_0077.jpg

DSC_0075.jpg

And pretty much back all done, this morning when we went I asked if he wouldn't mind smoothing over the rear towing eye space and counseling the tow eye behind bumper. As you can see from the pics they have done it for me and very good job too they even managed to get the same lip the rest of the lower bumper has.
