I'd be interested in how you attach the Wilwoods and add coilovers. I mistakenly thought the polo had legs like the golf, but when I took my wheel off they're like the peugots with the hub attached to the leg! DOH!

oh, and you're not too far from me, so if you need a hand with anything, i'll need a bit of notice but i'd like to help!

No the gt isnt different, its the same silly setup. Coilovers is either buy a new strut that is already assembled, or buy a conversion kit if you are handy with a welder. It will just make it easier and cheaper to play with spring weights and lengths to create the perfect setup with the subframe etc... Got a lot of plans, its just putting them in to action. I'd like it all done by GTi International this year.... tight deadline maybe, but we'll see!

I was wondering, are they the original bumpers sprayed? If so how did you get them to look so good? and where did you get the fog lights from, am looking to get some for my bready.

Yes it did. I cant take credit for building it, it is purely his work. I am now on a mission to make it my own car and change a few bits.

The hocks would look good polished, but they are so curbed etc and one is slightly buckled that its not worth doing it. So i will just have to wait until the smoors turn up.

thought it was kerrlys, how come it needs a respray? it was only done a couple of years ago

I've fitted 7j smoors to my G today, 20mm spacer at the back, 5mm at the front looks well cool, looking forward to seeing another mk3 on smoors

Paint has faded terribly on the tops of the doors, and the passenger wing, water marks in the roof and rear quarter panels, bonnet its stone chipped badly etc. Its just not been looked after properly.

Tried some decent cutting cream and polish but its not having any of it. The inconsistency in the paint is right in the lower layers and so it will not polish out. Looks ok from a distance, but any closer than 3 feet and you can see it!

i could never say the paint was immaculate all over but it was very good especially after the work id had done, apart from a tiny mark under the back light. Here it is from 2008ish, as you can tell from the Tornado red polo its parked next to it had very deep shiney paint. the bonnet and wings were repainted.

edit to add.

aside from the wheels changing:

- the rear wiper has gone

- the boot plynth used to be colour coded

- the exhaust sat just under the bumper with no cut out.

- it had all red rear lights

- clear indicators

- the wing mirrors were fully colour coded.

The guy who had it either before you or the bloke before him had some body work done to it....

It looks brilliant in those photos Kerrly. But i think its just lack of consistent washing and upkeep to be honest. But, I'll have it back to shiney in a few weeks. Just got to find somewhere reputable to give it a blow over and remove a few dents.

I tucked the exhaust up just recently as it had dropped considerably and was touching everywhere. I have some weldingto be done under there too as the mount on the jacking point has gone completely. Its not to everyones taste but it keeps it out the way and i think looks better in the flesh.

Got the front coilover conversion ordered up today! So with a bit of luck that will be on in the next few weeks with some new bushings and bearings.So pictures to come!!!

On another note, i was getting ready to sell up for parts just a few days ago! It decided to stop running and after closer inspection it was down to no spark. So we replaced the dizzy, coil and still no spark! After a lot of head scratching i decided it must be the chip. It had actually fried a tiny component in the ecu which cost me 12p to replace, and it fired up first go! Bloody thing!

Well the smoors that i bought from german ebay the "nice guy" decided that he wasnt going to deliver at all. So they are a no go. But i have bought some 7+8 x 14 et 15 and et25 wheels with tyres to go on. Just waiting for them to arrive!

After both rear wheel bearings going i have changed them, pulled the rear suspension apart and realised that the springs were well past their sell-by-date. So they have been replaced by mk1 golf lowering rear springs and it has changed the car completely. It is stiffer on the rear, but seems more comfortable and a lot more progressive to lean on through the twisties.

Been having terrible brake fade recently when they are used heavily so i have decided to upgrade. Whilst looking at the pricing for g40 items, i decided that i will actually go bigger and for cheaper. So, on go 256mm Vented. Hence why i have gone for 14s and they will be tight too!

I'm still waiting on braided hoses, brembo grooved discs and mintex pads. But once they are here i can begin to build it up again. They will be going on at the same time as my from coilovers which are waiting to be picked up and the welding begin to convert the front struts.

So my front set up to go on will be: Shortened uprated shocks, Faulkner 225lb 7" Springs, Coilover conversion, Caliper carrier holes tapped to M12, Vauxhall 256mm calipers and carriers, Brembo 256x20mm grooved vented discs, mintex pads and braided hoses. At some point i will upgrade the master cylinder too but not right now.

Wel, finally the wheels turned up! 7+8x14 Et25 and Et15. Sit really well. Not that tidy, but that can come in a bit. Now it means i can get the brakes on this weekend with new fluid. Also put the rear coilovers on - They are so f***ing hard its unbelievable. But after talks with the owner of the mental 16v track polo on CGti, i will be going for mk1 golf hubs and a full Avo adjustable shock kit with my own choice of springs...

Need to sort the stance out yet and give it a proper clean and meguiars sort out!

Think i'll have to mate. Got the 256mm brakes on today. All still needs time to bed in, but stops sharper already, I'll put up photos in the morning..

personally i like the Cults better, but the current wheels are cool aswell :-D

I think i have everything, pistons and rods are away for 19mm pin mod, the shell goes in for 6 point cage through to turrets next weekend... now the rebuild begins.

someones been watching top gear she's totty alright! liking the look of the car mate, think the GT badge wants to be a different colour though IMO

The gt badge isnt going to be on there anymore, i have a subtle 16v badge that i'll hide on the grill, and a small one on the rear thats all.

Rods come back friday to my spec and the block is going to be honed the same day. Spent ours down the work shop today, finished the charger mount, i'll offer everything up tonight and take some photos. The charger mounting brackets have been a right pain to get right as everything i thought might fit touched or interfered in some way with either the cambelt, cam pulleys, exhaust or just the head itself!

Managed to get a decent belt and work out a way of doing it now. Anyway, photos after some dinner.

Keen to see the outcome of this. Looks like it's gonna be a good 'un. Also nice to see a familiar Polo still about after a few years of not being about on the forum so much.
