After a recent sale of my Ibiza Cupra, I have been looking for a cheaper car within the VAG range. Decided the 6N2 GTi was the car for the job and with this in mind got on with the research. With a lot of searching and a viewing or two I came across this....

FSH, heated leather, climate control with recent coolant change, pedal box recall done etc, but needed bodywork bringing back to life, but for the price it was selling for and I offered.... I couldn't say no. Anyway got it home.

Any here's why it was priced lower than most....

So as you can see, the only way forward was a full repaint and wheel refurbishment!

The bodyshop removed all the parking dents and any other damage around the car repaired, the cars professional, but clearly horrid window tints removed, a new headlight, and the wheels lacquer all removed and repainted again.

The results speak for themself and the pictures will do the talking for me :-)

So with the big job out of the way, a few tidy up's got done, starting with the wiper (which for some reason stuck like this)

My number plate bulbs didn't work, so....

The key really needed the badge replacing, best 99p i've spent on a car lol

Also got my BMC off "Mouse" from this site :) such a great sounding car now, still need to sort out an air feed soon as the standard one is useless. Got busy removing things

Next was replacing the xenon bulbs for some 6000k ones as the orignal had discoloured, along with some silvertec's

And finally my shark fin aerial from the later GTi's

Picked it up today from the bodyshop :) will fit it soon

That looks a lot better. :) If you don't mind me asking, how much did the removal of the parking dents and the respray cost. Thinking about doing the same for mine.

i like this, and fair play to u, you have a car thats cost you a pretty low amount and you can actaully say the bodywork is immaculate:)

Looks mint mate and to get the car with that spec, mileage and with all the bits youve done for less than 3k you must be very pleased!

Yeah I'm really happy how its going so far! Only had the car a few weeks.

The repaint, dents, wheels, tint removal was through a friend as a cash job when he had the time. Stood me in £700 plus £25 for the tint removal which is a bargain in my eyes considering the cars value now :)

low as it can go really, fitted coilovers last night, was too low, tyres were catching on the arches constantly on a flat road... so made it abit higher and perfect will get pics up asap. also fitted front/rear mudflaps

Really happy with the results, its made the car so much nicer to drive, and the car looks better for it I think!

Like most, the "I" was faded on the grill badge, so removed the sticker/vinyl, and added a red grill trim, lovely change to the car :-D

Fitted and plugged in the shark fin which works better than the standard failure!

Interior next I think and hope my aero wipers turn up in the post soon to replace the embarassing silver / chrome attempts!

Thanks lad's, just deciding if I want to change the wheels or not. Been offered some diamond cut D90's and adaptors for mine and £150-£200 ish but not sure yet. Rather that or maybe some BBS RX's like Mouse_GTi had as they looked perfect. Or going out for some BBS RS's lol

Finally!!

No more chrome wipers thank god and the interior in the background

What a difference from Day 1 to now! Good work, looks really really tidy

Well today I spent 7, yes 7, hours on the interior. The previous owner clearly never touched it with a hoover let alone any cleaning products, which was the reason for doing this all this, because everything was completely covered in dirt and muck, and also the trip to the paint shop left it very dusty aswell. Haven't cleaned a car like this for a long time now but once you get going its all good. You won't find a cleaner Polo GTi inside lol

What got done:

Front and rear seats removed

All rubbish emptied - A lot of it!

A good hoover with the Dyson - This took the longest, I don't think it had been done since 2007 going by receipts I found

Headlining Auto Glym interior shampooed

All trims washed, cleaned and fabric on door seals

Seat belts pulled out, cleaned and hoovered - Now retract quicker and go back smoother

Front seat runners cleaned and re greased - Perfect

All carpets pulled back, foamed and washed throughout and febreze'd - Found all sorts of stuff

All leather cleaned with Auto Glym spray then Meguiars rich cream conditioner - Very healthy now

Dashboard washed with centre console, door cards & pockets, glove box, stereo storage, ash tray etc

Then all completely shined up using Meguiars Tech Protect

Windows x 6 polished and cleaned after with Meguiars glass cleaner

Another final hoover and second application of febreze

Threw old mat's in the bin and replaced with genuine VW ones in black with floor clips

Finally - 2 x Black Ice, Magic trees

And the results, all pictures off my phone which is a shame as the pictures don't show any true reflectance :(

Sandpaper in the boot, no doubt from when the crap spraying before got done, look at the grade!
