6N2 Polo GTI

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

Just got myself a 6N2 GTI, swapped it for a mk3 GT with cash his way (Thanks Daz!), I just fancied something newer and more comfortable. I absolutely love it! It's really good condition and drives spot on. Has a few niggles but nothing major, the throttle pedal has massive amounts of play in it, I've looked at the mech and it seems either the cable or plate sector has worn so got some ordered from VW along with some Headlight protectors! Also it seems the electric windows have just lost there one touch function, no idea why!? But I see these as small issues on such a nice car.. Anyway, I'll let the pics do the talking...

What's that you peasant?

Ha ha ha. Before this thread turns into us bantering.........

The car is cool and all that cleaning looks like it has paid off. Newer car was what you wanted and now you got it. The fact you look uber gay in it is fine though. No one really cares.

Get some different wheels.

nice car !

Good choice ;)

Looks good. That Mini looks massive!

Looks clean! Nice buy!

As for the elec windows my Cupra just did this the other day, just take the switch out and clean it up, works a treat :)

(did it all with a small flat head screw driver and bit of time)

Yeah, I narrowed it down to a dodgey switch, I'll take it off tomorrow and have a play, cheers dude.

seen this on piston heads mate, looks good!

So then Rich, when you taking that 4x4 off road? :p

Looks awesomes buddy, I'm sure you'll enjoy it just as much as I did!

nice man, finally come to the dark side :)

the accelerator's electronic i think, If theres play init there might be some bush's worn in its pivot or something.

Not herd of that one before.

nice, good find mate, wheels look dope on this.

ooo that looks like otley road I used to live directly opposite the post office nr the 3 horseshoes!

nice motor dude

My accelerator pedal has some movement in it - you can lift the pedal up from its rest position. Otherwise though it doesn't have any play unless my right foot is on it

I lost the one-touch function on my driver's side window recently, and despite resetting it (pull and hold switch to bring window up, hold switch up until you hear an audible click) it still doesn't do it. Will check out the switch itself now!

Yep, that's otley rd! You live on that street opposite the post office? There are ALWAYS mad parties going on!

Yep, thats the one, tried it and it works, although it doesn't work the the drivers side passenger window switch when going down, but works for going up? hmm?

lived at number 183 a few yrs back! used to be an awesome spot to live 2 min stroll to work and at the beginning of the otley run!

WINNER

Regarding the play in the accelarator, is it constant, or only when you manually lift the accelerator upwards?

I can lift the accelerator pedel up so there is play in it, but as soon as I push it down to it's original position it stays there with no issues.

It's always there, like you can I can fit my foot right under it and pull it up. But It is really low..

Plus according to VAGCOM the throttle isn't opening fully so i'm guessing worn bushes and fixings. I have all the parts on order from VAG too.

I'll get a pic and show you..

Right.. Been a busy boy on the GTI sorting out all the little niggles.

First things first, as some of you may know one of my mates drank too much, got a little over excited and jumped on my car causing £200 of damage! Luckily he manned up and paid for the repair which was done by DentvanishLTD in Leeds, I highly recommend these guys, they came and fixed it within 48hrs of contact, two guys came out and spent a good few hours going over the car.. the pictures speak for themselves how well they sorted the repair..

I also have a hazy nearside headlight...

DSC00138.jpg

Tried tackling this with farecla g3 and Displex...

DSC00139.jpg

DSC00140.jpg

Looking better but I'm still not happy with the outcome.. Think I'm going to try and source new headlight lenses and swap them over.. Watch this space...

DSC00141.jpg

Then decided to get myself down to my local VW dealership to get some headlight protectors as I didn't want to cause any more damage to the headlight (since headlights are about £400 a piece from VW, and that's just for the casing!)

Oh and I know the with/without is the wrong way round.. Can't be bother to change it

headlightprotectors.jpg

Then proceeded to repair my aerial gasket as mine had just disappeared... At the same time I put on a VW Sharon stubby aerial:

DSC00178.jpg

At the same time as buying the headlight protectors I also bought the plastic runner which sits in between the HT leads as mine was missing (thanks alexpekins for the part number :D )

DSC00151.jpg

Also bought a BMC CDA to replace the above Pipercross induction kit as I've read many good reports... Absolutely love it, it's not as loud or throaty as the Pipercross, but sounds more sporty and genuine. Thanks to MouseGTI for his superb guide on how to fit the induction hose 8)

DSC00180.jpg

Had an issue with rubbing on the engine cover so glued some old car carpet to the suspect area's.. It's been cleaned up loads, I'll update the picture soon..

DSC00182.jpg

Finally fitted a new Alpine stereo. It's a great head unit, but not to my taste, a little overkill for my needs so it's getting sold and will be replaced with a good spec Alpine unit without the touch screen!

DSC00176.jpg

DSC00177-2.jpg

Fitted a 25th Anniversary GTI badge to the rear (so it matches the one on the front which was fitted by the last owner)

DSC00154.jpg

Fitted a new red band around the grill as the old one was faded badly:

New:

And that's it so far...

I have a few plans and a to do list, mainly:

Fix the accelerator pedal as it seems to sit too low and according to VAGCOM it's only opening 78 degrees! Not good... I have all the necessary parts on order from VW, which are on back order so I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this issue..

Give it a oil change as the service lights just come on, I will give it a mini service at the same time (plugs, filters etc)

Fit new HT leads as ones split, it's got electrical tape at the moment and it works fine so it's in now rush..

Change the fuel filter as it's the original one according to the service history!

Fit new interior door handles and electric window switches as the drivers side passenger window switches one touch feature is temperamental.

Paint the rocker cover again as it's looking tired along with tidying the entire bay as it's filth

Paint the callipers red as they have faded loads :(

Got loads more to do but all these are on top of the list...

Right, as you can see, From left to right:

pedals.jpg

Left: Normal resting position when in use

Middle, when pulled up it rests here, but with the slightest press it will move down further again with no affect on the throttle (worn bush me thinks?)

Right, fully pulled and held.

What's peoples opinions on this?

EDIT: Oh and according to VAGCOM the throttle is only opening 78 degrees, so the throttle is not opening by 12%, so something must be worn/broke.

Edited by MrP

Every car i have ever owned the accelerator pedal has always been able to be pushed upwards.

I personally dont know if this is a problem, but various mechanics have seen it and never said it was an issue. Its normal by all accounts

Should have said, and according to VAGCOM the throttle is only opening 78 degrees, so the throttle is not opening by 12%, so something must be worn/broke.

Without headlight protectors, clutter it up too much for me!

Dents have come up well.

Where did you get the new aerial gasket from? VW? i need a new one as mines split
