Bought this off my mate as he has just bought a new bora. Will be my project over the summer, but will try get it on the road asap.

Has a few rust spots here and there and a couple dents, otherwise is in good conditon. Came with a 80/60 PhilJ kit so I put that on yesterday and also a tiny Mountney steering wheel so also put that on.

I know it's go mega reverse rake but can't be bothered to sort it yet Want the front lowered more anyways.

Steering wheel - smaller than a Momo 280mm

Plans are;

Remove bump-strips

Spray arch trims

Rebuild engine

Clean bay, hidden wiring

Relocate washer bottle to boot

Scuttle try cover probably out of fibreglass

Sort out the reverse rake

Improve brakes

Sort the radio wiring

Front speaker door pods

New interior - haven't totally decided if I want a new one, liking the old school colours

Further in the future plans;

GT engine + mods

mk3 dash

golf gti rear disc conversion

alloys - probably ats classics.

Looks like the twin of my mk2. Basically, it's called a coupe s but isn't a coupe s - have you got black vinyl doorcards?

Thought of more plans

Uprated headlight loom and better bulbs to improve the rubbish lights

New side mirrors, current ones have cracks

Possibly single lamp grill

Polybushed front with PhilJ ARB blocks

New parcel shelf, current one is broken

New plastic number plates

Brake wise I'm thinking new rear drum cylinders as I know one of the bleed nipples is broken probably new shoes aswell, VWII front calipers and bits, braided hoses

Basically plans are to keep it looking retro, but improve on the important parts

Not much of an update really, except got it insured so can now drive it

Also raised the back up 2 notches when I was last at home so it's sitting better now.

Will also be getting a webber carb for it in the near future, and possibly some recaro's

Going home tomorrow so shall try get some pics up of how it currently stands

Picked up a weber DMTL from Narrow_Lane today, and also some Recaro's!

Was pretty gutless in places on the trip to devon and back so will be good to get the weber on there. Just need to make an adapter plate which will be done in the near future. Will also need to weld up some subframes for the Recaro's.

Cheers guys Haven't decided on wheels yet, wouldn't mind some minilite style ones, but think might do engine work before any wheels.

New Recaros. Middles could do with re-trimming and one is missing the badge, but other than that they are awesome. Just need to get some subframes welded up.

Got a service kit and a couple other bits coming for the Weber so will see how it turns out. And yea the Recaros are pretty comfy, alot more supportive than the original seats.

Thought I would see how easy it would be to take the tyres off myself, turns out its quite easy with a ton of land rover driving over it

Small test fit to car.

Need longer bolts to fit them. Also need refurbing, I'm hoping I can get away with doing just the lips, which will be polished, but will have to wait until I've got more time to do them.

Weber service kit and ali plate for adapter arrived today aswell. Already fitted all the service kit, forgot to take photos though. Just waiting for choke cable and will start fitting it the next day or so.

Also started on getting the Recaros in today. First thing was to weld some strips of metal to existing seat subframe so it didn't lose shape when cut off.

Cut off and put in car to see if it still worked, luckily it did.

I then tacked it onto the recaro seats, but again forgot to get photos. Just need to put some more bracing and fit the adjuster lever and some paint and then the passengers seat is done. Did take quite a while to get to the stage I'm at, mainly because I had never done it before so took some working out and things, drivers should go quicker though. I did test fit it and sits alot lower than the old seat, however still want the drivers seat lower :p

Forgot all about this, sorry not to post sooner.

The theory is, I reckon a main dealer figured out it was cheaper to buy a Polo Coupe C off vw with a full list of options and sell it as a coupe s than to buy a Coupe S and do the same.

Things I've noticed:

Mine has a data sticker listing it as a Polo Coupe C with a 1.3 MH engine and a 5 speed 8P box.

No interior light pin switch or hole for one passenger side (good spot Karl!)

Black vinyl doorcards as found in base spec cars.

Seats, I'm informed, are optional extras sports seats available on Polo CL's (again, good spot karl), a Coupe S this age would have Dennis the Menace stripey seats. The seats were later fitted to Polo Rangers, which were F-reg at the earliest (mine's a D-reg).

Rear seatbelt holder clips (normally only found on basic cars)

No pin stripes.... so not a Coupe S

No vinyl behind the rear number plate... so again, not a coupe S.

Funky hubcaps on the wide steels, not part of Coupe S spec.

Grey headlining (think Coupe S should be black on a red car).

No red stripes on grill.

....and I can't remember if mine has a red stripe around the clock or not...

In my opinion though, you get a nicer specced car by a long way, not vastly different to a CL coupe with specced up seats. I got rid of the plain black door cards off mine cause I don't like em and fitted some half-cloth ones from an early Coupe, so tie in with the seat fabric and give it a bit of sportiness.

@ Martin - haha fair play, my max was a lot lower but then I thought nah they will look good just got to refurb them and I think they will be worth what I paid then.

@ Yeti - Ah right cool, cheers for the info. Thinking about it mine is exactly how you described. May think about doing the same with my door cards.

Finished fitting the Recaros last night, also started on making the adapter plate for the DMTL tonight. Left the camera in the car thought so no pics yet.

Haven't updated for a while, but have been doing plenty on it.

Go Recaro's fully fitted last week and the DMTL. The DMTl needs a chooke cable but it hasn't been dispatched to me yet so I just locked it off with a bit of cable for now. The random spring is also there to pull back the throttle wheel as it isn't strong enough on its own. Will fashion up something better sometime.

However the Weber was doing this for a while whilst I waited for new jets

New jets have been fitted so should be all good now.

Then yesterday the fuel pump decided to give out, luckily I had a solidstate Facet one so today was spent fitting that.

First off made a blanking plate for the original mechanical pump.

Then made a bracket to hold the new pump and swirl pot.

Test fitting the bits.

Was all good so sprayed it up quickly.

Decided I wanted the pump and that hidden in the skuttle tray, so fuel lines needed putting through into there. Holes drilled through and grommits put in.

Fuel lines put through.

Then my camera battery died so no further pics of me fitting the pump and bits. Once the batteries had charged I had finished it, so engine bay now looks like this.

Desperately needs a clean :(

Also this came on Friday, so was able to sort out my exhaust which I have been patching together as it was scrapping so much.

Can see here how low it hung.

Scrap marks on the middle silencer, not massive but enough to keep pulling apart the joints and making it blow.

So replaced the middle silencer with a bit of Exhaust pipe I had.

Also the rear silencer was a crappy patterned fit so I cut that up and re-welded it so it sits better. I also welded the rear silencer to the middle section to reduce the amount of joints. Overall the exhaust sits much higher and doesn't scrap at all where it used to.

I also started on the Mahle's, paint stripped one of them, which was quite easy. Will probably use the car to polish the lips and then spray the centres a silver. Need to get the tyres off the other 3 and get them stripped. A job for next weekend though :)

Not car related, but took apart my freecoaster on my BMX to find some rather nice broken bearings. Can see in the photo the one nearest the sprocket is a complete bearing, the other 4 bits are what's left of one bearing Moral of the story, use bearings that can handle the load applied to them

Might have some updates during the week, it really needs a wash and hoover so that will at least be getting done. May spray trim if I'm not using it for a day or so and get them looking good again.

Looks lile a cracking project, always good to see someone invest time in a Mk2

Be vary wary of the plastic Pierburg swirl pot, they have been known to crack and even melt causing engine fires. My own had cracked to within an inch of it's life too. Pierburg do a pressed steel one with the same mountings and pipe stubs - might be worth investing in one.
