just seeing that you are running a swirl pot with a weber, do you think that i should with mine (when i get the weber through the post) also just wondering what hoese go where on them? as i have a metal one and a plastic one like yours.

I'm guessing you've got a pooberg at the mo that you are replacing? If the new weber doesn't have a fuel return then yea I would use a swirl pot otherwise it will overfill and leak somewhere. With the plastic one, the return fuel hose goes on the union sitting on the top, the feed from the pump goes to the top one that's on the side and the feed to the carb comes from the bottom union. Is probably the same with the metal one aswell.

You're absolutely right, the steel ones have identical outlets as the plastic jobbies.

So last Wednesday I took a trip to Devon to pick up a GT engine from Matt/Narrow Lane. Then fitted on Saturday.

New engine basically involves -

GT head/cam and block

GK inlet manifold

Weber DMTL

8P gearbox

To run this I needed an electric fuel pump, which luckily I had already fitted the weekend before. So Saturday turned up and I wanted to get the whole thing fitted in one day. So set about an early start. About an hour and half later, this was the scene.

MH engine coming out, with my make shift engine crane

Horrible dirty bay

So gave it a quick clean, but ran out of degreaser and got abit bored doing it, so left it as this. Defiantly an improvement though.

Then removed gearbox, clutch and flywheel from MH engine.

Cleaned the gearbox abit and fitted it all up to the GT. Had given the GT block a quick paint with some hammerite a couple days before to make it look a little better. Also emptied the oil from the gearbox and replaced it.

Then my mates turned up and one left their 6N (my old one) whilst they went to Halfrauds to get paint, so I had a break and did this

Got to love having a mile of clingfilm to play with

Then back to the engine.

Everything off the MH that I needed and onto the GT.

Then dropped into the bay, and most things connected back up.

Then I filled it with fresh coolant and oil and setup the Weber and timing. But that is as far as I got with photos, just wanted to drive it

Over all it is so much better, runs so much quieter its lovely. Defiantly need a 4-branch manifold though as current one is restricting it alot.

However still pulls well and doesn't stop pulling right up to 7000rpm

Hopefully I will be able to afford a 4-branch next week or so and will get that ordered asap.

Might start on refurbing the Mahles and see about tyres next weekend as I have done most of the big things I wanted to do to it mechanical wise.

Nope Is pretty near even at the moment. Desperately need a 4-branch and then I think it will fly past then.

Yea I'm thinking in the future headwork and cam will be on the cards, along with possibly bottom end work.

sry be a paint in the ass but iam puttin rover half leather recaros in mine and if pos could u get me a pic of you are seat under neath aafter u had weldin them up so i can get idea of what to do thats all

Yea probably can, duno when though. Will be taking them out somepoint to paint the bases so will get some photos then.

But basically, I just welded on some box section to the sides of the seats and then welded the original polo legs and adjustable runner onto the box section. Is pretty simple once you've worked out where the legs need to be.

I got rid of the tilt altogether, didn't want it, I just have the seats sitting low all the time.

I just used normal degreaser. This stuff to be precise Click Smells and is expensive but is good stuff.

Need to clean the bay and engine bits more, still lots of dirty bits left that I'm not happy with.

No huge updates really, have been pretty lazy with it. However..

Got some aero wipers, was getting fed up with how bad the standard items were.

New headunit.

Gave it a wash, as I don't have a hosepipe ban Also realised this is the first wash I've given it since owning it

Cleans up okay, but paintwork isn't in the greatest of conditions, lots of rust spots I need to sort. And thin paint in places :(

Decided to finally start doing the Mahles this week aswell, as they have just been sitting there looking sorry for themselves. Got 2 sprayed up now, just the other 2 to sand abit and spray up. Shall be ordering tyres next week.

Colour is Audi Silver, nothing over the top but should work well with the red.

Also got some flush fitting valves as I hate normal rubber ones and think they ruin the look of the wheel.

Only photo I have of it at the mo, suspension hadn't settle after being jacked up so doesn't quite look like that.

Had to do some arch work on the back as they rubbed a fair old bit, but is all sorted now.

Also took a trip over the Severn to pick something nice up shall get some photos up when they are on.

Bring the back up a notch or 2 and i think this would be spot on, the wheels really make it look awesome! Some spacers at the back maybe too and it'd be epic!

Its a friend's of mine, been getting it MOT'able for her. Pretty cool mini to be fair, has made me want one will get some pics of it tomorrow

Looks even more like a fiesta with the latest addition, just need to sort a couple things and it will be on. I know what you mean about the back, isn't that bad normally, is mainly the slope of the yard and having tools in the back giving it the rake.

Spacers for the back may be on the cards aswell, camber and probably more arch work will be needed however.

Awsome Awsome Awsome, Your now my insapration lol, Wheels completetly tranformed it, Agree with toby though, 5-10mm spacers on the back aswell as raise it up a notch and it will be perfect.

Looks very standard also which is cool.

Will probably order some 5mm spacers when I get paid and raise the back up when I put them on. Don't think I'll be able to get away with anything larger spacer wise
