1971 RAT BUG DAILY

Featured Replies

Ok so this is Archie, my 1971 1300 Bug.

A little bit about Archie.

I bought him in November and have driven him daily since then, the only time he hasn't started first time on the dot is when it was parked up over christmas for around 5-6 days and the heavy snow killed off the bettery. apart from that I have no worries in knowing it will take me to work 4-5 times a week (10 mile round trip) and home & back every 2-3 weeks (90 mile round trip). I really don't want to sell Him but I have no where to store him and career prospects and commitments mean I have to get something a little more toned down and a little bigger!

1300cc

12 Months Tax

1 Month MOT

I haven't had him long, but long enough to know he is a cracking runner! gear box is excellent, clutch is excellent, suspension is excellent, new floorpan just a couple of years ago, I was assured by the previous owner the engine was rebuilt around 45k ago, The engine does suggest this (Chrome bits, stainless exhaust and black engine tinware) although I was never given any reciepts when I purchased him. Respectfully the only history I have of Archie is the Last 3 MOT's, the last 3 tax discs and a couple of reciepts (for the bits I have bought listed below).

EXTERIOR

It has narrowed and lowered, I believe the beam has been narrowed by 2 inches and I am told it can go lower, but the ride hide is a perfect balance of stance and daily practicality.

While I've owned him I have;

- New Battery (old one was killed off by the shocking snow we had this winter as explained above)

- 2 new tyres (rear)

I had it looked over by a the family mechanic while I was home from uni and he is confident it will pass the MOT with 2 new front tyres put on. I just have not got the time to get it sorted out, career commitments mean I need something a bit greyer and a tad faster down the motorway

INTERIOR

It's a little bit tatty inside but the 2 front seats and rear bench and in good order and clean, it is mainly the roof lining and the rear store that is a bit messy. The window wiper on the drivers side was snapped off, again the crap weather froze up the windows and I snapped the winder off trying to wind the window down.

It has;

- CD player with ipod connection in the glovebox

- Suit case with built in 6x9 (not currently wired up, but wires are provided and long enough to be connected, and the suitcase put on the roof rack)

- 3x 12 volt slots (for cigarette lighter etc)

- Basket rather than the shelf under the console

Pictures of the cheeky rusty bits. no major rust, nothing that affects the drive of the car, no leaks etc

Interior, as stated a bit grubby just needs a good clean really it is rat afterall!

Retro suitcase with speakers in, chuck it on the roof rack. just needs re wiring up, all the wires are present.

Not much to look at but a very solid engine, could just do with a carb clean to get it running that little bit sweeter.

Take the cans of and get the pipes on and viola! heaters connected.

If you have had a beetle before you know what to expect, if you haven't please don't expect a brand new car! It's 39 years old

Could do with selling up quite quick because of career commitments, If I had a garage to store it in there is no way I would be selling up.

As said above I am open to all px's let me know what you've got!

Price - £1900 or make me a sensible offer worst i can say is on you bike!

Located in Huddersfield most of the time but sometimes you'll find me in wigan

Any questions just give me a bell 07946636213

Cheers,

Johnny

yes it does mate its on extender hinges, keeps the engine cooler, just take the hinges off and it closes.

It needs 2 new tyres and a couple of fuses, All Welding and suspension is fine I just dont have time to take it.

Still available.

£1400 if collected at the weekend. will be getting the MOT advisory slip tomorrow so the buyer can see what needs doing and that I'm not hiding anything. I just have no money and no time.

Regards,

Johnny

I've been looking at bugs all day and contemplating getting one.

Hi, did you get the advisory slip? I'm very interested in the car and would like to know what it needs to drive home. Cheers

Its in for its MOT on Tuesday First thing, I will let you know then mate

Cheers

Took it for its MOT today, failed on a couple of thing but nothing really major;

The guys at the MOT centre managed to pop one of my brake hoses so I've told them to get that fixed.

Aprt from that it needs.

1 new tyre

ball joint

3 bulbs

drivers seatbelt reel cleaning out

a couple of new clamps on the exhaust

So not much at all really, I just cant afford to pay for it!

He's gotta go this week as I'm starting my new job on monday!

£1500 or make me a decent offer!

Cheers Johnny

so if it failed on the above items...

did they mention any advisories that are borderline legal?

Passable advisories:

Front and Rear Suspension has been lowered

Rear engine lid not closed correctly

n/s/f mirror missing

Slight play in o/s/f ball joint

Obviously the top 3 are legal Modifications and as I said above they were pretty intense with it.

Johnny
