Just bought a Mk2 Polo Fox off Ebay, that was listed with a suspected wheel bearing fault.

Problem is you only get the grinding noise (from f/n/s) when driving straight or turning right, when you turn left the noise stops.

I'm no mechanic, but I'm sure if it was the f/n/s bearing it would only be noisy when turning left.

Can any one help or point me in the right direction please?

Mine does this too ! Only when turning right, you get a rumble from the left side.

if the noise stops when you turn left then it is the nearside bearing,as the weight is off it as you turn the left and it also turns slower than the offside wheel so no noise

if the offside bearing is shot it will go quieter on a right turn for the same reasons

I have had bearings go before, but they have only ever made a noise when turning, never had one noisy while driving in a straight line.

i had one go and i was sure it was the gearbox,driving straight,turning,it was knocking bad,was the nearside bearing

also had one that was a dull groan which increased after 30 ish mph,only went quiet when i turned left,and was the nearside bearing,had almost welded itself in the hub

you can also get it when the bearing doesnt make a noise but the disc hits the backplate due to the movement of the bearing,this is a problem I'm having and is also the nearside so changing the whole hub to be shot of the problem

but yes the noise will happen while driving straight

try it out,fresh bearing puts a huge smile on your face lol such a difference,not only the noise but also the feel and handling

Might save you a bit of money if you buy the bearing yourself from GSF or something then ask them to put it in.

A really badly worn bearing will make noises whilst driving straight.
