Hi not sure if this is in the right section but... I gave my polo a good wash yesterday and on the bonnet where my L plate had been sat its really faded my paintwork, not sure what's happen.

Here's a picture, I've tried to get it off but nothing happens.

My dad suggested complaining to Tesco's as that's where I got the plates.

Has this happened to anyone else before or anything similar?

was the lplate magnetic?? as they tend to to that to paintwork (magnets that is)

Yeh it has two magnetic strips on it, but the magnets were on either side of where the damage is. :S

could be that condensation has built up under the plate on the nights,then boiled underneath with the heat of the bonnet when you drive it?this could cause the damage over time

either that or a chemical or dye in the plate has seeped when wet causing the problem?

I don't want to insult your intelligence too much but have you tried polishing it yet?

red paint on any car is the worst colour out to maintain.... use some cutting compound to bring the paint back up then polish/buff it up and seal it...

if your weary of cutting compunds use a red or universal T CUT.. this should do the job. if not mate then cant help you.
