1.8 20v turbo engine into 6n2?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know whether a seat ibiza 1.8 turbo engine will fit straight into a 6n2 without having to customize anything?

Thanks Sophie

What if everything from the ibiza went in, drive shaft, gearbox, fuel pump, everything basically lol

yes but then your customising it =/

kinda answered your own question and you wont really know what you have to customise as you put it until you get stuck in, and youll come across a few probs scratch your noggin and come up with the answer.

theres a few on here than have 6n2 gti 20vts that may be worth mithering by pm

The Ibiza is wider,so is the subframe and the driveshafts are too long.

This conversion is desirable, and is only gonna get more popular as both 6n2's and 1.8T's get more affordable.

But at the moment it's still specialist stuff, and i dont know of any conversion kits available yet. We need a conversion guide in the FAQ but i cant see it happening whilst people are commanding several thousands of pounds to carry out the conversion - not everyone is happy to give their time, effort and wisdom for free.

i might do a 'guide' one of these days, the cupra is the best running gear to source to start with for your conversion.

as Mikey says the ibiza is wider (the same as mk2 /3 golf - not polo) so it's not a direct fit and alot of custom parts including mounts, boost pipes, intercooler, loom etc etc

Olly

ibiza is more of a golf not a polo.

Just accept it isnt a straight swap.

For a 6n2 you can use a BAM engine if you use a 9n2 Gti engine mount, you'll still need custom driveshafts mind.

There's jamie polo's 1.8t 6n2 gti for sale in the for sale section, have a look at that.

Kirk

every transverse 20vt has the same mounting point bud not just BAM lumps.

just buy mine ;)

I want to start my conversion this month, all I've got so far is a 1.0 6n, and basically it needs a 1.8t with more than 200bhp to beat my mates track car (redtop corsa on carbs) I'm trying to find the easiest route to take for the conversion i.e. which is the best donor car and what sort of parts will need to be fabricated? is there anybody that sells conversion parts such as driveshafts, boost pipes etc. thanks in advance for any help, Jake.
