seeing as its £45k on the road id rather spend the cash on an e92 m3 thats second hand and had most of the depreciation knocked off + have about £15k change

its got a v8, so you know its good.

Yeah but the RS500 isn't that impressive is it. Nothing to stop you getting a regular one, heading over to Graham Goode Racing and getting more power for less cash. Then just paint or wrap it in satin black. Job done.

On paper the Golf R is actually quicker in the sprint to 60mph anyway, though it feels slower than the standard RS. And with four wheel drive it's a tuner's dream, and should be faster than the front wheel drive Focus when it's tuned for big power.

Golf looks the part too.

EDIT - meant to say, having driven both, the Focus RS is a much more exciting drive than the Golf R, regardless of performance figures. It's nothing a few engine mods on the Golf can't solve...

I seem to see some sort of value in this focus, I don't know why. I dont care what else is faster, cheaper, I would always have the focus. for me its got that fast ford vibe, the same vibe as the escort mexico's, the RS2000's, the sierra cosworths. Its the working mans dream. I have absolutley no desire for a high power 4x4 golf, I just dont get the appeal at all, same for audi's and bimmers, most people seem to buy them as some sort of status symbol. If I could have a Lada that looked bad ass and did everything I needed it to then I would buy it (as a matter of fact I did!)

I agree that the focus is perhaps a return to the old school fast ford days and it will hold its value possibly better than the golf becuase if you take a look at the old focus rs prices they are suprisingly very high still and most people didnt really rate that model

Reading about the rs500 a few weeks back I'm sure it only comes in left hand drive.

just seems to be another case of a car company raping an icon to try and milk the name for a bit more cash tbh.

In which case that squashes McBummin's comment about them raping a good name to sell more cars, its a LTD edition, not trying to sell a thousand of them. Just trying to sell more focus's in general I suppose, same purpose as all the previous fast fords.

Plus, with only 500 of them, there will be well over 500 rich tradesmen who will want one, thus if you got hold of one you could probably sell it for more than the list price anyway, then after the hype dies down, depreciation will be slow.

are you trying to say that they are only calling it the RS500 because they are making 500 of them? because i'd say it was more a case of them only making 500 of them so they could call it the RS500.

they didn't build the RS500 to sell more general sierra's. they built them so they could make touring car cosworths more competitive against the V8 rovers, they could only uprate them if they built 500 production car's of the same spec thus making it eligible to race in the series. it only exists because of homological reasons. on the other hand the focus RS500 is only having 500 built so they can call it the RS500 so yes they are just raping the name, they could of built any number of these that they wanted too, do you think it's just coincidence that the number they choice to make just so happens to be the exact same amount that would give them the opportunity to name it after one of the best known fords of our generation?

here's a little question for you, if all those years ago the rules stated that a company had to build 700 production car's before they were eligible to race, how many limited edition RS focus's would be built in 2010? answers on a post card...

Thats true, but its still to sell more sierras, thats the point of manufacturer racing. The same old thing ford have been pulling since the 70's, joe bloggs loves the fast as fuck fords, but cant afford one. So he goes for the 1.3 GLX and uses his imagination a little more whilst he drives.

And of course the name is a throw back to the RS500. Everyone looks back on the old fords with rose tinted gigs and moans about how those were the days when there were proper special factory fast cars, just like people will look back on this new RS500 and think the same. Whatever anyone says they are always just a means to sell more cars.

It's not built by Volvo directly, it should be being built by some tuning company called Polestar Performance who clearly don't realise the implications of the name, but hopefully it'll get a full release like the P1 Scoobys did back in the day..

All the hot focuses have a volvo t5 engine under the bonnet- its a belter of an engine, makes a fantastic noise above 4k rpm!

My parents are now on their second t5 estate!

But i still reckon the thing that lets down the focus is a lack of 4wd....

Nah, I don't think that lack of 4wd is a problem in the slightest for the RS.
