Have been through the FAQs & done a search & can't find a definite answer, although it seems to have been asked a few times.

Have to get a new gearbox in my 1.4 8v Mk4 & wondering if a gearbox from another model will fit? Mechanic is sourcing a reconditioned 2nd hand box & I just don't want to end up with a 1.0 or something in it.

(Apols if that's a ridiculous Q but I've not a clue about these things.)

Also, would you expect a warranty on the "new" gearbox, and how long for if yes..?

There are loads of mk4 boxes, over 40 different codes. If you post your gearbox code and any that you/your mechanic find, then I can tell you what the differences are.
