Can you do it without spring compressors? I've never changed suspension on a car before so don't really know.

My dad told me he'd do it because it can be dangerous if you don't know what your doing but I'm impatient

Put the jack here, at the very bottom of the shock absorber with a bit of pressure.

Then undo these two nuts,

Then let the jack down slowly and the whole suspension unit should lower with it without breaking my teeth?

Or should I leave it for the auld man?

that's about right, no need for spring compressors. Prob best to wait for the old man if you aren't confident though.

Best to get an axle stand under there as well just in case.

Yeah you look like your doing it right. When the cars jacked up the spring should be slack.

You'll need to get some mole grips on the shaft when you undo the top strut nut becuase it will spin the shaft.

May i ask why your taking it off?

I've undone them 2 nuts that I took a photo of, do I just lower the jack now? Or will the spring do something crazy if I lower the jack?

I would have undone the lower bolt, jacked the car up untill the spring is no longer compressed.

Then undo the top nut and it should just drop out.

Bit of a fail really,you dont jack a part of the suspension whilst the body is only supportd by a jack itself.

No worries though,you can still swap all four of the springs without a spring compressor,and safely; simply undo the top mount with all four wheels on the ground,then jack it up at that corner (why relax the suspension only to compress it again?).

I'll try the way you said on the other side. Its my first time removing suspension so I wasn't really sure what I was doing

And I didn't compress or jack the suspension, I just jacked it so the suspension was resting on the jack so I could drop it down easyily instead of it just falling out.

Don't forget the spacer side on the lower mount goes outboard when refitting

As long as its mounted the same as above, otherwise you may has issues with the tyre/wheel, rubbing against the spring

My tyre is mega close to the spring! Going to have to strip it off again :(
