yes, yes it is! haha

I'm working as a tech, starting by trying to get service tech status and see where it goes from there. I'm going to be pretty patient and see how it all goes.

day 1 was amazing frankly! I learnt a few things that would be hard to know if you weren't VW like the passat fans come off really easily making alternators and cambelts a piece of cake, the dreaded engine mount can be easily taken out by dropping the gearbox mount too and I've been shown the diesel cambelt shenanigins with the sprockets that aren't attached to the camshaft, which Autodata makes sound like the most complicated thing ever!

so yeah, I'm stoked.....

oh and no discount until I get through my probation period and even then I get the impression they are a bit shady about it.

Thanks for the replies, i read them before I went to work and it eased the nerves a bit!

Cheers all!

no company car Golf R then? :(

What is a tech?? Just out of curiosity what do you need in order to work for them experience, qualifications etc?

yeah right! haven't even seen one yet, but the garage I work in does the PDI and presales stuff so you never know! There's a bunch of Roccos sat in the yard waiting to have their options put in.... nice!

Tech is slang for Light Vehicle Technician. You need NVQ 2 and 3 as a LVT and a lot of luck. It's taken me 4 years to get a "proper" job in a garage, I seemed to get a lot more interest from garages when I left of my degree, A levels and glossed over my previous job. Oh and when I stopped turning up for interviews in a suit!

Still I'm there now and it really is brilliant!

Fuck working for VW, heard some things about them crazy germans lol

I have to go on a course that's 7 days long called "Being Volkswagen".

Seriously....

How much can there be to take up 7 days??

So the Germans are crazy I think!

I have a friend who works for VW. He gets no respect as he drives (well drove) a Skyline!!! He is liked a little bit when cheap parts are required :)

you will be suprised how many courses there are, I'm doing an apprentership at vauhxall and last time i was at college i sepnt 3 days straight doing 1 course

I worked for VW in the '90s, i remember the rows of MK1 panels and cages of 70s parts for Beetles,Golfs and Polos.

Bet they dont have so much as a MK2 window winder handle left now though..

Steve the parts guy is a god! He helped me when i put a MK2 golf back together with loads of little bits.

Anyway, who wants old beetle parts when you could own a new one! (JOKE!! worked on my first one today and they suck!)

I'm not adverse to going on long courses (I hope the DSG course for example is longer than a day or I'm going to get confused!) but this course seems a bit excessive. I think I'll go mad in Milton Keynes for a week! Do they have pubs there?

Hi pall I'm currently going through an apprenticeship with vw, i Get sent there everys 6 weeks or so for a week.

Milton keynes have pubs yes but if your at horwood house you need a car, or plenty pf pennies for a taxi.

I'm down there again in a week or two so if you see a young manc lad (usually complaining about shit food, shit weather or the shit pillows) it will be me, come and say hi and enjoy it and i think the dsg course is three days.

I always found the best thing about the courses in Milton Keynes, were the pizzas

congrats on the new job :)

Now i need a new fuel pump................
