polo 6n wrecks to riches ha ha

Featured Replies

Hi every one, I'm new to this forum but thought id start a little progress thread about this poor little polo.

A mate of mine was gonna scrap it but i could see past the dirt and rust and it was obvious it just needed a bit of tlc,

I've always liked the polo and had many vws through the years so thought id give it a new lease of life as it seemed a shame to bin it.

I got it home and first off give it a bit of a clean inside and out. Inside needed vaxing as it was a bit mouldy where the window was left open.

It needs a new offside wing as its hanging on by a thread and the rear valance is the same!!

nearside quarter needs a bit of work as its got a scrape,

under the car is mint tho, couldnt believe it.

All I've done so far is debadge the rear but I'm gonna hit this weekend and get a bit done.

Think this could be a cool little car.

any ideas and comments are welcome.post-34360-1272708139.jpg

good project for you pal, does it run ok?

cheers mate, hmmm well it starts on the button which is a good start. theres a lot of mayo under the oil cap which at first toughts as usual is head gasket, but a good friend of mine said i shouldnt worry as itll just be condinsation as its bin stop started alot. its not using water and its not getting hot at all so i will see how it goes.

One thing is its over fueling like a bugger (thats why it failed its MOT)

lambda sensor has been chopped then re-wired so hopefully just wants a new one. thats it so far. fingers crossed :-)

sounds promising pal, the mayo could is probably due to short stop startin journeys but get a sniff test for piece of mind as it can just be very early signs of it going, even though its not overheatin or using water

well got the wing off yesterday and found myself a new one, also got some 16v rear lights and some new front indicators and a badgeless grill!!! managed to find some alloys aswell, they aint great but they will do for now untill i find some i really like.

I was trying to put some pics up of my progress but it wont let me!!

Well done for saving it mate

Get a photobucket account, and upload all your images there, and then just use their link to put pictures up. Alot easier that way!!

first job done!! wing off!! now for the rear bumper which i started to take off but got stuck!! Can anyone let me know how to get it off? got the bolts along the top and the one in the wheel arch but it still wont budge :-(post-34360-1272705781.jpg

Front end ready for badgeless grill and new indicators :-)post-34360-1272706533.jpg

get that lower grille off the bumper, there are some bolts on the underside either side of number plate from memory.

they are very tight fit the 8v bumper round the cross member between the chassis legs, its a snug fit, i got mine off once i double checked i had removed al the bolts by wiggling it off and then pulling it off!

For the rear bumper, there should be some little black plastic clips underneath, usually about 4.

They look like black plastic screws, with a plastic washer, Just lever the screw part out and the rest of the clip shoud just pull out.

Well got a fair bit more done today!! getting there slowly!!post-34360-1273340649.jpg

rear end all stripped ready for new rear valance or a 16v bumper if i can find one, also got some 16v lights waiting and ready!!
