The only problem I've had is that a sump warped when I welded plating to the bottom of it and it blocked off the oil pick up, I then carried on running it even tho there were obvious signs of impending danger

Briscoe didn't do a bolt up on the oil pump bracket. Salty had a new cam belt fail. Saf had a (mk2) alt fan fly off. there are thousands of afh's on the road over here and only (to start with) 500 g40's but you still hear of plenty of g's fucking up (kiz's dropped a valve, safs did some thing terminal but can't remember what), dirrts melted a piston yet your not bitching about how shit and unreliable they are. Your just hating cause your bumming some thing else now

3f's's are not sick engines by any stretch of the imagination Toby, mine lasted 3 months before I was bored and sold the car on. There fine as a nippy replacement for an spi but that's it, and they have plenty of issues as well

Is there any fool proof way of telling if my rings are fucked?

The coolant drained through over about 12hrs, i assume they are fucked as one didnt drain at all, but maybe that one was fuller?

Think I'm gonna throw the pistons and rods from the other engine and see if they fix my issue. That should give me something to do AGAIN......

hey man your having the same luck as I've had with these bloody afh engines mine has just blown the diff lol its one wheel drive atm hoping its just the bearings probs post the symptoms in the tech bit and see what people think but dragggin the gearbox off tomoz and going to strip and rebuild it.

i would probs say your rings have gone and it would be better rebuilding the bottom end with new bearings as well at the same time if you get the crank bearings and big end bearings from gsf they are the cheapest and they are also oem ones as long as they give you the KolbenSchmidt ones and rings are the cheapest off redmansengines on ebay.if you need any help on where to get stuff il dig out my recents and double check everything mate.

Getting my head skimmed today and I've asked them there to find out the price of bearings and riongs for me, seems stupid to even entertain putting it all back together without changing them, and its gona be cheaper than a new engine, and i will have replaced everything on it, so itll be all new then

spilt coolant into the bores when i took the head off last night, left it in, came to it this morning and three of them were pretty much dry so i assume the rings have gone. Sooooo, i need a new bottom end,
