iirc, they had a 1.3 blocks with a 16v bike engine head with throttle bodies, around the 200bhp mark or something like that. Someone will probably be able to correct me though if I'm wrong, which I could be

It depends which class the cars are built to, each class has different engine size limits etc etc

e.g You get the Group H ones which you commonly see early polos in and mk1 golfs, upto 1300cc they are really bespoke engines - full ITBs, some have the motorbike head conversion, some have a bespoke replacement 16v head onto an 8v bottom end, running 13.5:1 compression and wild cams. around 200bhp, very light weight, mostly 6sp sequential or dog engagement gearboxes with really close ratios.

Most of the cars are the original layout, as in they are still FWD on things like golfs. You see the odd ex DTM/ex F2 kit cars where the engines are sat much lower/further back to help weight distribution, ex group B machines like the delta S4 with the compound charged lump

Dumping a few pictures you may have seen before, forget where i found them...

Sorg Motorsport 16v 1.3 polo engine, IIRC the head is from a CBR1000 Honda.

205bhp NA, 11,000rpm

holy crap that is a sweet engine.

I take it this was for a 1300cc and under class, bet that bike head makes it scream!

Wasnt that engine up for sale not so long ago? I'm sure i've seen it before.

Would be nice to have that in a fully stripped mk3 :)

abit of subtle mk1 polo porn

Perfect Polo sorggg

i want a sorg engine.

OMG

I see Eric's been on the tissues again.

the golfs vary alot dependant on class, we saw a few that were running the polo 1.4 16v on itb's, then there were a few 2.0 8v and of course 2.0 16v, a good example for power rateings would be this polo, got talking to the guy and told us it was running around 215bhp, went like stink and looked amazing

I wanna build one

Clubpolo berg car! Put all membership fees into mutually building one...

bagsy driving

if you saw them in the flesh youd wet yourself, the build quality of theses cars is amazing, look at how far forward theyve mounted the engine, i didnt get any pics of it but the sequential box was a work of art, along with all the custom fabricated parts/mounts

Dread to think what the engines cost to build. I'd imagine they'd be very highly strung too. Too much over revving and you'd kill it.

They were built for revving ;) lol

Speaking to one guy who's son was racing in a fairly limited class (cant remember which) in a pretty stock Polo GT, he reckoned to be competitive in the other classes guys were spending 20-30K euro's on an engine!

Thats about as much as i'm spending on mine....

Gore @ fifty seconds..

Gore @ fifty seconds..

1.15 :shock::lol:

ha ha, that was this year, i was stood in the infield when that happened, they shut the coures for 30mins to replace the hay bales, that polo sounds amazing on full song
