apparently my car was 'dangerous' on friday night coz of the blowing exhaust, cost me 30quid that did. police woman n00b who enjoyed talking down to me, had to laugh coz she obviously didnt have a clue and she could tell that i knew that.

its funny the cops only target the younger looking drivers in there small hatchbacks.

when 4x4's are becoming more and more popular all done up with higher clearances and big fucking wheels with massive gripping tyres that would eat you a live if you get to close.

Recieved my summons and will post up the officers statement asap. Will need some help guys. Any links and documents that can help appeal this crap...

I'm just posting on what the traffic officer has written on his statement, below is his view on my car summrised breifly :)

Traffic officer on his statement (2pages must love my car) has stated that the car is poorly mantained due to low washer fluid (my car dosent look poorly mantained or sounds), also has stated that the car is lower from the front then the back which cuases a twist in the suspension, also mentions that the car has modfied suspension (obvisouly). says that the handling could be affected being low. said that the front had some movement and the rear suspension had no movement when rocking the car.(its a polo not a 4x4) when breaking the car can change direction.

Did they have any equipment to measure if your suspension was "twisting" whatever bullshit that is.

and is rocking the car a valid test on which to base a fine and points?

bloody cops, They are quite good in my area mind. I've been pulled once and they didnt question the car, just spoke to me for a bit and were sound!

A few ideas and thoughts:

The only "twisting" there is a change in castor angle surely? There are ridiculously complex books on suspension design/setup... Get youself a copy/loan of one or two, quote some relevant sections, get everything in writing, show your sources for your information. Clearly they have NO IDEA what they're on about... I'd start by PROVING that you DO!

As I understand things, unless the body twists instead of the suspension, (which is undesirable at best, and unsafe at worst!) as long as the camber/tracking are set up correctly, the HANDLING will not be affected, but the stability will be increased due to the reduced centre of gravity and decreased body roll. The castor angle affects the car mainly under braking (affects "dive") and whilst negotiating bumps. Clearly, rocking the car will NOT test this. Of course, for all I know, you could have corrected the castor angle by shimming etc. to compensate for the rake angle.

For the car to be "too stiff" the only scenario I could think of is if the suspension was unable to "keep up" with a fast-changing road surface... (hit a bump and the car bounces in the air, both front wheels leave the ground, leaving you out of control). If you were to have an accident as a result of such a scenario, you'd be able to bring a case against the council for poor road maintenance.

Bearing in mind the year of your car, and the state most of them are in by that age, Try approaching someone in the motor trade to write a positive reference about your maintenence... or at least, of the general state of the car... (assuming you're confident of it yourself) Just a though. For obvious reasons, they may not want to get involved, but if you have a friendly local garage that sees you regularly, it may be worth a go!

Right what i plan to do is to email vosa and get some feedback from them on the stiffness of a suspension (TUV approved). I have also got few mates that have been in the same situation namely gugs and suf frm AB25. My brother also had this on his mk1 golf and contested and won the case. I might pop down styledynamics and get them to right a short note on the maintainance of the car at its age. i believe its well maintained. Surely having an MOT for the past 5 years on the car without fail is evidence. I'm the second owner of the vehicle too lol first was a women.

the twist in the suspension was aload of bollx. Just cus the back sits lil lower doesnt change the drivin of my car. what if i had a standrd car with two big (heavy guys) as passengers. wudnt that cause a twist.

Can anyone provide me more information on tyre stretchin. I was running 165 / 50 / R15 at the time on a 7inch bbs wheels. even thou this isnt what I'm being convicted for id like to fight his statement about this.

Shame that the british transport police cant leave people like us alone. We have appealing cars which gives them the chance to pull us over ...bit stupid...they should be targeting people with no MOTs insurances etc. I mean i liked it when my black polo sat on yellow bbs wheels looked nice. bunch of wank3rs.

oops sorry that was my post. my brother forgot to log himself out and i didnt chek. but yeah as stated above. :p

When I had my first Mk3 Polo 1litre beast I got pulled one night because of the usual rear exhaust hanger problem.

It had broken earlier that day and I'd been amazing and manage to secure the box up with lockwire...but I couldn't hang it as far up as it should be.

Anyway got pulled by this woman police officer. She was checking everything on my car, mentioned my exhaust at first but just glanced over it to start with. The rest of the car was checked and they couldn't find anything wrong and the policeman who was also there was ready to let me go. But she pipes up and says "I'm really not happy with that exhaust"

She continued to explain that due to it hanging low the emissions could be effected and if I was to drive over a speed bump it could take the exhaust off. (Never seen a speed bump 6+ inches high before but there we go)

So she said to me "I'm issuing you an unroadworthy vehicle notice thingy what means you can't drive the car until its fixed"

I was about 2 miles from home so I said "How do I get home then and how do I get it to the garage in the morning?"

To which she replied "Oh you will have to drive it, you can't leave it here"

So I had a car 2 miles from home that I wasn't allowed to drive...but I was allowed to drive it home!

Anyway back on topic...if your suspension was bought in this country and is designed for road use it WILL be TUV approved like any other car suspension. So I'd say appeal as there is nothing they should be able to do.

Plus think about all the super cars on the road...even just hot hatches, they too have very stiff suspension.
