Hi all.

I have a question about catalyst rules.

I think it is year 1992 and before dont need one and get the gasses tested by a different machine.

So if i do an AFH conversion into my 1992 polo... do i legally need a catalytic converter?

(All AFHs must have been post 93 surely?)

So does the car have to be pre93 or the engine?

I've been thinking the same thing as well mate for when i do my conversion

its whatever you can prove is oldest .

id say MOT stations discretion, they said my 89 mk2 would have to pass the emissions for the 1992 engine that was in it, but with a de-cat and fourbranch it still passed..

If the car is a J reg or before you don't need a cat regardless of what engine you fit. If its a K reg (1st Aug 1992) or later you do. In theory you can fit an older engine to a K reg car and it isn't cat tested but you will have to provide evidence of the engines age; I can see that being difficult.

car, not engine... great thing about my cappa is i can stick the cossie 24v engine in it decat, adds like 10 bhp if you get a straight through (and souns the tits!)

Depends on the MOT station.

Mine gets tested as a de-cat yet its a 93 with a cat
