[rant]here's an error for you all to laugh at if you choose! : i popped my tire and buckled the wheel earlier, had to put spare on (max speed 50!) then had to use motorway to get home, i think i was extremely popular! car transporter doing 56 and joining motorway + me in inside lane doing 50 = fail! in the end, i had to brake to avoid an accident!

so, low and slow - WRONG. i'm at 4x4 height on my 6n2 but just had to go slow. space savers are shit for cornering at above 20mph - epic understeer!!

Most boy racers i know of have 1.0's with big exhausts, generally slow as fuck revving the balls of there saxos all the time n going nowhere in a hurry.

Since when have chav racers had VTS's? lol

And as for speed, that IMO has nout to do with it. Its all about how fast you can get to that speed

was reeeeeally tempting to do more than 50 down a motorway but couldn't. i made up for it tho when i got my new (2nd hand) wheel on tho, managed 100mph out of a 1.0 6n2 - top speed in book is 93mph! te fastest i've ever been is an indicated 105mph and if the car could have shook any more, it'd have vibrated apart!!

Easy way to put an end to this - Say your dub will go all "third reich" on their little french snot box!

Low and slow = boring. Not saying i drive a fast car, but having briefly gone back to a aav powered mk3 coupe its just painful to drive, takes calender months to get to 60!

I appreciate a good looking car, but i really appreciate a good looking car that goes/handles as well as it looks. It always makes me cringe seeing tech threads with people asking about which induction kits and exhausts to get for thier 1ltr polos. WHYYYYY?

I'm sure my opinions will be lost on many users, but i know a few people will see where I'm coming from.

My mate has a mk1 clio 1.8 with a t5 turbo, it can beat bikes. He understands low and slow though so it's all good. But my mates girlfriend was ripping me saying why would you even do that to a 1litre car?

You can't go fast with a 100mm drop, so why bother having a fast engine when you can save money running a cheap car....

I'm quite happy with a 0.9. At the end of the day havign a 33 year old car means people assume it's not going to go all that fast anyway. When I see people in saxo's flooring it off at the lights next to me it just makes me chuckle.

theres a lot of one litre saxo's,106's,corsas round my way which are all shite IMO

i would own a 306 gti-6 or hdi, vts,gti and a corsa sport, you just get the odd TW*T in shitty bad boy cars thinkin their shithot, you also get the people that actually know what their doing with those sort of cars, I've seen some amazing euro styled saxo's that have made me want to get one instead of my beamer and polo call them guilty pleasures lol

Its killed me going form a 200bhp 300lb/ft (est) 306 HDi to this 100bhp box, its not even like its lighter or better handling to claim points back. I dont know why I miss the speed, I never drove that fast. It was weird having to think before booting it cos of the rate it would accelerate at and the fact it would spin the wheels in 4th on a slippy surface but it was so amazing on the roads by me that are all big wide dual carriageways and a junction every mile or so. I loved sitting at the lights or driving arround just trying to spot a car quicker than mine, some days i wouldnt see one.

You need to drive a properly quick car before you decide that low and slow is the way forwards.

I've got a 1.0 litre white 6n, the rear windows are plasted in stickers, I've got like 50 air freshners hanging off the rear view, its dropped as far as it can go on 15's (right on the tire), mudflaps on the front which scrape around on everything bigger than a pebble, U.S plate stuck on the front, i must confess i have got a bigger exhaust on it. And nearly everyday i get ripped about my car from the lads at work. they say 'whats the point in doing that to it, it dusnt even go fast' 'i could thrash you in a race in my 1.4 206' they propbly could but i reli cudnt care less, i like it, it looks better than any of there cars (in my eyes)

its just stupid, i just agree with em now its that boring.

Sorry to be picky but its a volvo 480 conversion hes done in the mk1 clio, the t5 engines wont fit as the engine mounts are different and the engine is too big for the bay. The 480 conversion however is a 1.7 turbo which follows a similar engine design as the mk1 clio rsi this is why they are easily interchangable.

I know cause i used to have a volvo 480 turbo conversion on my mk1 clio, and tbh it aint that fast. At stock produces 110...whereas the t5 produces 220 or something like that. After changing the cams, chip, induction kit and the usual youd be lucky to get 170 out of it. Would say yes probably beat bikes but not much above a 125cc.

But back on topic. Dude in fairness you are driving in a 1.0 dont expect miracles. And as for them, what have they got like 1.2, 1.4 or maybe even 1.6. I mean some of the fastes french hot hatches about are the 172 and 182 now youve also got the new renault sport range which some of them are monsters. But the fact is there is always going to be a car faster than them aswel so no matter what car your rolling round in your never going to be the fastest on the road.

I know a little bit of oomph is nice when you put your foot on the pedal. But enjoy driving, its not about whos got the fastess, whos got the nicest or the most expensive car. Its about the enjoyment. Chill, the thing is that your probably biting to them aswel, so they can see its winding you up as they can see its bothering you. If you just as said above, just agree with them or simply ignore them and dont show that you give a mokeys uncle then theyl soon stop as they wont get any satisfaction out of patronizing you.

Totally agree, people who know they have got a seriously fast car just find satisfaction in knowing that they could burn you if they wanted to. Its people who like to think they have a fast car that talk bout it to the high heavens.

But another thing that annoys me is when people see the tdi badge they assume the cars slow!!

This is quite a fun thread - I joined because my ex always buys Polos, and it's handy to have a tech resource.That and the fact I love driving the little things because they're fun :)

The ex's motor is a 1990 1.05 - utterly gutless, but fun in a bouncy kinda way.I have a 1998 1.4 Civic (the slow one) which isn't fun at all, but is handy for picking the kids up every other weekend and cheap insurance (I only passed my test in dec 2008, aged 39)

Other than that, I have a Kawasaki ZX-9R which is *properly* quick - it's 11 years old, can still see 190 0n the clocks (GPS reveals this is really about 176) and is ideal for showing up any chav-mobiles.Or anything, really (R8s and the like tend to kill it in roll-ons from about 140, but my bike only cost me £1700)

I have yet to find any car that can get even close on acceleration - even my brother's 550bhp Skyline gets left behind like a gay ginger kid

I agree with enjoying driving because it is fun to drive and i will say some french cars can look nice but they have a bad reputation due to chavs crashing into halfrauds.

I love the sound of a loud exhaust (chavvy i know) but i have a 1.0 and people will say its loud but not going anywhere :(

GTs aren't rockets either! but i disagree with pretty much everything else, i ran a subaru legacy b7 (i think) and a 250bhp forester wrx and while they were astonishingly quick, i'd rather be cruising through town in my slammed 66 bug... but then thats just me.

haha well, mate drives a Gti and obviously theres a point were you cant keep up, but upto 70 odd its genuinely surprising how well it does.

Sort of 106s and saxos that other 17 year olds drives sure as hell aint Gti's tho
