Hi everyone, just interested in a rough estimate of how quickly a 6n Polo 1.4 8v will do 0-60 in? According to autotrader its like 15 seconds which seems incredibly slow to me considering a 16 valve corsa is like 10.

Can anyone shed any light as to how accurate this time is for a standard 8v?

Sounds right to me, 6Ns are pretty heavy and not very fast compared to it's compettitors

Would depend on how good you are at driving, road conditions, tyres, how well looked after the engine is, etc.

Probably about 14 seconds.

Try 18 seconds for a 1.0 :(

About a day.

Autotrader's times are always way off.

It's probably more like 10-11 seconds, 8v's have much more torque than 16v's so accelerate better.

My mates got a 1.2 SXi Corsa C which is slower than my 1.4 8V. I don't think it's anywhere near as slow as 15 seconds, mine seems to get there in more like 10-11 if you get the start right.

My car does seem fairly quick for a 1.4 8V though, it's quicker in a straight line than a 1.4 16v focus, 1.2 sxi corsa, 6n2 1.4 8v, 1.4 clio 16v. And it'll keep up with my mates 1.6 8v 6n as well.

yeah mine was faster than my mates 1.4 focus and i could hold off a 1.6 8v, but the sxi corsa still rinsed it

think they're a mighty 80bhp or something

My 'mate' had one of those Corsa C SXI's with 18" wheels and got slaughtered by a yellow Cinquecento Sporting

Your comparing two completely different cars mate.

A 16v corsa whether it be the 1.2 or 1.4 are both more modern and more powerful than the 1.4 8v 6n Polo.

And if your are talking about the 1.4 16v Corsa then they are on par performance wise with a 1.4 16v Polo 6n.

Its quicker than a two stroke Trabant,but that's about it. But they do have a higher top speed than most HGV's,

would prefer a 16v 6n but arent they like group 10 insurance? Only had my license since march so doubt i'd get insured on that. Anyone got put a slightly modded 1.4 8v on a rolling road? eg, how much extra for small mods eg exhaust system, air filter, manifold etc.

Whats the handling like of a polo 6n? I've heard some good things but still stuck between a Civic or a Polo for my next car as I'm driving a 1.7td estate at the mo :-D

Orrr a mk2 Polo 1.3, they're fun to drive.

Yeah do like the Civic but a little too expensive for me to be honest and as they're group 7 my insurance going up £200, but also as i'm on my mums policy atm I'm not sure if i'll get my own policy to start earning no claims next year when my current insurance runs out. Thats why i'm looking for a polo as I love the euro look of them and also because they're only group 5.

With the speed thing obviously i'm not looking for anything rapid but after something with a bit of poke at least otherwise may as well keep my current car.

I'd get some insurance quotes on a 16v if I was you, I found there wasn't really much in it despite doubling insurance groups.

The 1.4 8v isn't designed to be sporty, so they only gave it 60bhp but there's a reasonable amount of torque low down the rev range. But neither torque or power higher up the rev range lol. Which is ideal for pootling around really, what the car was intended for.

I dont think this conversation is able to harbour any serious consideration in regards to a BMW M3,mate.

You wont be quicker then a clio 16v (98bhp 0-60 jst 12.8secs) either and the focus is a much bigger car and the 1.4 75bhp model statistic wise 0-60 is quicker then 1.4 8v 6n (just).

It really depends on the cars condition if its been looked after serviced etc and the driver and how they are driving!

but to measure 0-60/top speed accurately you need a

gps data-logger/accelerometer .

thats just what the 8v owners tell people to make themselves feel better about owning an 8v. I've yet to see any proof of these wild claims?

Unlucky mine at 20 with 1years no claims was only £130 more on a 16v then an 8v.

1.4 8v -60bhp. 116 Nm, 86 lb-ft torque

1.4 16v- 100bhp. 128 Nm, 94 lb-ft

Hardly much difference, but not less. Figures are from parkers.

0-60 time =14.4 s

top speed = 100 mph

BHP= 60

Torque = 116 Nm 86 lb-ft

1.4 16V 3d

0-60 time = 10.2 s

Top speed = 117 mph

BHP = 100

Torque = 128 Nm 94 lb-ft
