Where did you get the long runners on the back of the carbs? Are they standard?

Thanks ,well I'm not sure my dad had it at work so cant tell you I'm sure if you search on the net for it you can find it ,its made by 3m called trim tape I think

update had a little problem with the thermostat is hasnt been working took it all apart and found out the houseing was broken and it is brand new from gsf grrrr very enoying , put the old one on works fine now so fan cuts in , got a header tank also as old one had a crack. shes now ready for an MOT hopfully next weekend could be on the road.

the exhaust seems to always sag on my polo's so sorted that problem out today with a exhaust strap and a clamp,

has pulled up 2 inches i reckon so sits nice.

MOT booked for friday. although doesnt drive well at all but once it passes mot i can take it somewhere to tune it up i hope.

PASSED MOT all was ok , but iv still drives very rough i think it sounds like its running on 3 cylinders half the time so I'm gona take the head off and have a look.

update: i have taken off the cylinder head as I'm not happy with how it ran wanted to check valves were ok etc, they were fine but i have another cylinder head with a gt cam in ported n polished so iv chucked that on as i know it had been rebuilt before i bought it.

iv taken the carbs off also and sent them off for a rebuild to make sure they are ok to use and I'm hoping that will get them running abit better.

borrowed my mate's keihin cvk 900 carbs with 165 jets and drove around the block seems to run alot better really pulled in first then it starts to run crap and stalls again I'm thinking it might be fuel pressure maybe not getting enough fuel at high rev's . what ever it is its very fustrating just want it to work now been going on too long

I would have thought 900s would be far too big.

What jets were you running in the 600's?

And were they balanced and checked for air leaks etc?

160's in the 600's and i have checked them for balance and seemed fine no air leaks either I'm very confused , i also tried 180 jets in the 600's and it didnt change a thing. the 600's are still at the shop getting rebuilt and a proper clean up I'm hoping this will sort them out.

haha i knew it would be somthing simple and it was , just the fuel pressure I'm using a jubile clip for now but orderd a pressure regulator finally i can drive it to a rolling road and set it up.

Need to see the old girl again soon! Seriously liking what your doing. :)

hay cam glad you like it ,carbs still needs setting up properly and need a proper airfilter for them , i will come and show you when she is running well enough but its slow progress at the mo and I'm busy with work almost 7 days a week its mental.

update still cant get 5th gear no matter how much i adjust the linkage just doesnt seem enough room for the gear stick to go in to 5th, also bought a pipercross filter for the carbs its got a blank base plate so il have to drill out the holes.

all sorted now have 5th, i was doing it all wrong live n learn spose.

quick update ,all gone pete tong wasnt running to bad but then bent a valve damaged piston

Just did my semi often check of your journal Ryan. Seems you haven't updated for a while after the engine damage. Hope you still have her. :)

Well i haven't had much luck with bike carbs yet tho when it seemed to run at its best iv had it off the clocks n got there very quick too but all work on the car has completely stopped for the moment as iv got to save all funds for moving out the house.

I have fixed the bent valve and piston doesnt seem that bad after all ,so the heads back on but with the standard cam in seems to tick over alot smoother now then it ever has dune ,I'm thinking about getting a different set of 600 carbs the zzr ones but means il have the modify the spacing of the manifold again.

I'm giving up on bike carbs now and going for somthing different ,iv got a set of twin su carbs n I'm getting a manifold made up soon i just want to have the car useable again.

Why've you "given up" on them dude?

You'll not get anywhere near the potential performance out of the SU's

I not to fused about perfermance now just want my polo on the road

what problems are you having with them?

Just seems to be a fueling problem i cant even go over 30mph with out it dieing on me iv changed the jets to 155 then to 180 but no difference , i just dont know enough about the carbs they might not be anygood
