back box mounts

Featured Replies

hi all :) I'm new to this forum and to the VW scene but love it.Basicly where i work theres massive speed bumps, up at bodelwyddan castle north wales? where the all types show is held? anyway back to the point. my exhaust has fell off twice this week on them speed bumps. What modification is possible to fit something better to keep the exhaust on?

Cheers in advance for any info :)

Which polo is it some are notoriously poor in the back box mounts region mine fell off a few times.but 74p later and new mounts seem fine

Do you own a mk3 (1990 - 1994) by any chance?

yeah its a mk 3 sorry.iv put 6 new bushes on it in the last week as I'm losing them all.lol.its a crap exhaust hanging idea on it as when you go over a bump the exhaust goes up and knocks the rubbers out and falls off! lol

genuine rubbers seem alot better than cheapie ones...not that dear either

and see if the metal hooks are weak , mine were so i made up a little bolt on replacemt thats stronger

Mine were shocking on my MK3 new rubbers though and all good

Yeah I got a couple of more robust hooks welded onto mine when the originals snapped off.

Little rubber ring hangers and bend the mounts around so they can't come off jobs a good'n

thanks for all the advice. Iv sorted it now by using the smallest exhaust rubbers i could buy i think they're 34mm and iv had no problems with it :)

I had to weld one on the G40 because someone else had been fiddling with it too much :(

How do you manage to bolt a replacement on as theres no room to get above the hangers to get a nut in?

you can just get a nut on with the back box off...i had to bend the edge of the box section around with some pliers a bit , doesnt look rank

you could also consider pop rivets , nut serts, or hefty self tapers
