Had a day off today and have been pretty dam bored, so decided to watch some old school movies...

...Bullit, Vanishing point, Ronin and Gone in 60 seconds...

However after watching all of them I'm undecided as to which has the best car chase scene

its between these two in my eyes.... :)

I think bullit wins due its cult status, and healthy dollops of v8 warbles :grin:

i have to say Ronin...one of my fave films ever.

the sound of the S8 in that...OMG!

plus all the driving scenes were done at real speed with no computer magic used at all.

Vanishing point is cool.

Ronin is a great flick but the plot sags in places.

they were actually filmed at about 30 mph mate, just VERY well shot, that's why there's a lot of shots with the camera darting around so you don't notice how slow the cars are going.

but saying that the chase pisses all over any of that over the top Hollywood bullshit they make these days with exploding cars and jumping over buses ect. just goes to show that you don't need CGI effects, just a great director and camera crew.

vanishing points is one of my all time fave films, another classic from the same era that you will like if you like that is 'dirty marry, crazy larry'

i love the mustaches in that film lol. even tho it's pretty cheesy, has no story line and terrible acting (at least they were consistent when they remade it lol), the car scenes in it are great and well worth watching it for... unlike the remake imo, that bit on the bridge near the end is pure bullshit, i can put up with shit acting and a lack of story line, but i drew the line at breaking the laws of physics

The best chase scene has to be The blues brothers,it held the record for the most cars wrecked in one chase for years and lasts most of the film on and off.

'TAXI' is also a nice bit of car themed fun, only the french version tho, fuck thd yank remake.

the 'snore' bits tend to be where he's doing his thing, either setting the scene or giving you some back ground on the characters (usually with them telling a witty anecdote or making a strange but very clever observation about some thing/some one/or a situation).

i totally get how some people would get bored at this point, but for me these scenes are what set his films apart from those by his peers, the tip scene in reservoir dogs for example, or the what do they call a big mac in France scene in pulp fiction. nothing really happens in them but they are a great way of getting to know the characters in a way that no one else really does.

back on topic, i thought kurt russal was brilliant in death proof, another example of Tarantino bring back a forgotten actor and getting the best out of them while taking them out of their comfort zone.
