Swapping V5 over

Featured Replies

Hey,

This coming sun (6th) my insurance renews and I am going onto my own policy.

The car is currently registered to my dad, and his insurance, (I was just added as a named driver tempory). But next weekend the insurance is changing onto my policy, me being main driver etc, and the insurance policy also states the car will be registered to me.

Just wondering when I should send off the V5?

I could send it off like now, registering the car to me before the current insurance runs out, or send it off when my insurance starts?

I personally think I should send it off on the Sat, (like as you purchase a new car) & keep the new keepers slip with me?

Just wondering as dont want to have either of the insurance policys made invalid like!

Cheers

yes send it on the saturday and keep the slip as proof of ownership

your insurance company "may" ask for photocopies of v5 ect but wont ask for a few weeks into the policy,in which time the new v5 will arrive anyway

some insurance companys do that, some dont

Thought so mate yeah. Cause I thought like, if it was registered to me before end of current policy would invalidate it technically, and if was registered to dad with new policy it would kinda be invalid too!
