My mates looking to buy a mk4 golf and we're going to check it out tomorrow, are there any common faults or things i should be looking at?

there's a fair few, they're mostly model specific so you should probably mention what's in it. . . . .

eg: 1.4, stem seals/piston rings can go easily, check for smoke on start up.

60-80k is problem mileage, rear bushes, steering rack bushes, etc. . .

1.4 16v golfs can often suffer from noisey tappets or even worse pison slap!

mate of mine has a 1.4 mk4 which he fookin abuses [and has crashed twice] and its been fine from 50-100k

redlined cold starts etc, redlined everywhere lol

Imo i think they're the best looking "new" golfs

I've heard that the clutch and gearbox are abit of a problem once they reach 80K, is this true?
