Insurance Prices

Featured Replies

hey i've been a named driver on my dad's mk3 golf for the past year, as a provisional and full license holder. I've been searching around for quotes for my own car as I've been looking at 1.0 and 1.3 polos yet I'm being quoted £2,600+ yet it would only be £3,000 to be insured as the sole driver on the golf. Is £2,600 unreasonable for 1.0 and 1.3's or is it the gritty reality of being a 18 year old?

It all depends on the car really and who the driver is. Also it depends where you live really - I'm lucky since being 22 I can get a 1.4 fully comp for just short of £700  I feel lucky.

mine was 3.3k on a 1.4 16v 100bhp 6n2 polo... I'm 17 lol, it had to go :(

Seriously either insurance prices have shot up like 100% or you guys are looking in there wrong companys.

My first car was a polo 1.4 and i paid £1200 in my first year !

Try some specialist insurance companys see what they have to say to help you.

my polo coupe 1.0l was 1200 for the first year with tesco when i was 18... then i renewed with aviva and its 500 (i do have 1 year no claims and i'm now 19)

Prices for young drivers are getting very very stupid now.

My first car was a Renault Megane 1.4 and I had to pay £1700 to insure it, and that was the same price I was getting with pretty much every company.

Now that car was about the same insurance group as a 1.0 Mk3 Polo and it was worth the same as the average 1.0 Mk3 today...and it was only 5 years ago so I really don't see how they can justify doubling their prices in just 5 years.

A 1.0 Mk3 is worth about £500 for a tidy standard example these days and they want the guts of £3k for insurance, do they think you are capable of writting the car off 6 times or something?

true, recession is an excuse for everything these days.

try and persuade your parents to go on admiral multicar, my insurance is £1100 with them on my 1.0 mk3 and i passed this week. it was 900 on a provisional!

also add them as named drivers of your car, tends to bring your premium down a bit.
