Polo 6n 16v - Coilovers, Comp TH's, smooth

Featured Replies

Well its finally come time to put this car up for sale. I'm going to look at a new car next Saturday, but i'm in no rush to sell it.

Its a 1997 P reg Polo 16v. Its got a part service history as since I got it most of the work has been done by a local garage or myself! The car runs very well and has been very reliable - its only let me down once when I squashed the CAT flat on a speed bump!

The car itself had a snapped timing belt before I bought the car and did terminal damage to the head and a few other components. The previous owner had it fully rebuilt using genuine VAG parts - the bill came to over £2400 in parts lone. However I have nothing to back this up. But before I bought the car he did show me a bank statement with the £2397 going to Camerons VW in Perth. Its now on about 86000 miles & has had 2 oil changes since I bought it. In the 2 years i've owned the car I have only done about 8000 miles in it.

New parts that have been fitted in the time I've owned it:-

New thermostat housing & thermostat

New coil pack

Reconditioned gearbox - £400+ 2 year or 32000 mile warrenty (only done 2000 miles)

New clutch & release bearing

2x Rear wheel bearings

Full exhaust system (std) inc a new CAT

During my time of ownership I have also done a few modifications:-

The engine is pretty much standard other than a small induction kit.

The bodywork has had quite a bit of work done to it, inc welding up a small hole in the drivers side sill under the B-pillar, had the arches rolled, bump strips removed & the front bumper smoothed. Then the front bumper, both wings, all 4 doors & the 1/4 panels where all painted in a fresh coat of paint. The car is also fitted with a full set of Genuine VW mudguards & a set of Heko wind deflectors. Its also fitted with a very rare set of side repeater blanks! Mk5 Tail lights are fitted along with Smoked front indicators - I also have a brand new set of Lucas headlights on order too!

The Chassis has a set of Stut braces on it, front lower wishbone brace and a rear upper brace too. Its on PhilJ coilovers which have been on for about 18 months. The wheels are Comp TH's (all refurbed in metallic silver) in 8x15 with fairly new 195/45/15 Toyo tyres (very slight marks on the front tyres from scrubbing, but none on the rears)

The Stereo has been upgraded with a Sony GT-710 headunit, upgrade door speakers (JBL??? Cant remember) Stealth shelf with Infinity 6x9's on it (since removed, but included in the sale) In the boot is a 12" Sub & Amp (i'll be removing the current one and replacing it before the sale)

The interior is clean with no rips or burns anywhere, All the electrics work, inc windows and central locking.

This car is one of the first 16v's and is fully spec'd with Front Foglights, heated washer jets, Tilt & slide Glass sunroof & fully operational and VERY COLD aircon.

Anyone who knows the car, or has read my Build thread will know that its been very well looked after and will be sorely missed. Anyway here are a few pics:-

The day I bought it + a nice set of G60 steels:-

Ok, now the not so good bits:-

When the car squashed its CAT, the wheel strop that held the car on the transporter rubbed a small bit of paint off the drivers side rear arch. Its small and annoying - I know its there though! The smoothed bumper isnt the best & there is a small bit of sinking at the top of the old plate recess & its just cracked the paint slightly. The original bonnet has some weird and wonderful ripples in it, but I run it with the rust bonnet sometimes and it hasnt really bothered me.

And thats about it! Not really bad things, just not perfect!

The Car is MOT'd until next April and has about 4 months tax left on it. Please bear in mind that i'm in Scotland (about 50 miles north of Glasgow) viewing can be arranged. I'm happy to pick people up from Airports or train stations if people are serious about buying the car!

It depends on the buyer how much of the parts they want as I also have another set of clear headlight protectors, the roof bars & basket, the rusty bonnet & a few other bits and pieces!

I hope this goes to someone who will look after and use this car in the manner that I have over the last 2 years.

Now onto the price - this is a tough one! I have decided to remove the expensive Amp & sub from the boot and replace them with other ones. They are good units, just not quite such top end items! The wheels are staying on the car. I will not break this car AT ALL!

Ok, i'm after £2000 for the car. Dont PM me and make any stupid offers. If you do have any questions then please do get in touch with me - I'm online almost everyday!
