if your car didnt have them from factory then your fine, otherwise its a legal requirement of a mot, you can tape indicators onto your w ing for the pu rposes of it, and youll wnat to keep them reconnected if hidden or put something like a resistor in line, so that the lights dont blink too fast (which warns you, that you have a bulb out)

thing i was thinking of doing is just havin one side smoothing for the time being would that be legal to smooth one side and leave one side on ?

no

the only reason that new cars get away with it is because it's inbuilt into the wing mirror and wraps around so you can see it from the back of the car aswell as the front and side.

this comes up all the time!! my car has no side repeaters and has passed the mot 3 times! the mk4 polo front indicators wrap around enough of the front end to be visible from the side, therefore meeting the mot requirement

i heard the same as sean and for me he is the proof!

i also spoke to my MOT tester and he said he would pass it aswell.

really? one side? ahahah

if they are smoothed and not there then you dont need them.

it would only fail if there was a hole where it was missing or had a blown bulb in one.

erm... were talking about actual law here, not just an mot'rs discretion

Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986

These must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens. Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an 'E' mark in a circle or an 'e' mark in a rectangle above which is the number 5.

in practise, like most mot'rs is, they will use thier discretion, as long as your car isnt a bag of shit and you have wrap around front indi's, youll be reet

What about if you have Chewits in your centre console? Is this okay for a MOT test? I have left mine in and I am worried it will fail.

thats called bribery, youll end up in the clink with george(ina) as your new bum buddy fo life.

he will also smear IDST over your buttcrack in blood semen and poo

ps. the above is only applicable to kam, all other mot'rs will just eat the chewits and pass the car

mines had both side repeaters smoothed off, and by many-a mot's fine :/

my mk3 had them smoothed and it failed on them, i tried to pull the 'but you can see the front indy from the side' and he said he didn't care, it's failed lol. so i connected them back up, had the wire coming out from the side of the bonnet to the wing mirror where the repeaters were taped on with electrical tape. he said he was happy with that because they were secure and visible from the side

whether it will pass an mot or not is irrelevant as some testers may pass them even if it's not legal, this doesn't then make it legal, it just means that tester turned a blind eye to it.

My mates g40 has new vw wings which had no repeater holes, been through 3 mots no worries. But saf says, its at their discretion.

By the way saf, if you leave the side repeater bulb out it doesnt flash fast, it only the main bulbs that do that mate. no harm in leaving the old bulbs though! :-p:thumbsup:

Mine doesn't have them in the wings because its an '85. But it does have them behind the wings because it has an '88 wiring loom.

I intend to drill the wings so i can fit them. I just forget to do so. They're worth having, particularly on motorways.
