2.0 engine from a ibiza mk2 in my 6n?

Featured Replies

Heres the thing. My engine is just a 1.4 8v and its worn to death and i think its gunna die, so there is a mk2 ibiza cupra with 70 k on the clock that I'm thinking about buying. so i can put the engine in mine and break the rest of the car. how difficult would it be to change it over cos I'm sure its not that hard as the polo's and ibiza's arent much different.

any comments to give me a hand?

cheers

They are actually quite different in that department, its more close to a golf than a polo

I'm sure the 2l unit is also a long block engine, so either you remove the bonnet or have the sump on the floor.

I would have thought a 2.0 l would be a bit of a pain to drop into a 6n, as walshc has said they are more like a golf than a polo

Wouldn't it make more sense to find a Polo 6n GTi in europe somewhere. (all hail german ebay).

Take its 1.6 16v engine and transplant it into your RHD polo? or would you need to move thisngs about? e.g. brake servo etc?

For all that hassle you might aswell just put the 6n2 gti engine in (i think its actually the same anyway????)

hmm, i know someone who said it can be done but the ibiza is cheap and in my town and i need a new engine for mine either way. plus i can make my money back if i break the ibiza down for parts. I'm just unsure as yous are saying its too big bt then again that guy panda has the 20v turbo in his so it can always be done.

tall blocks fit, but they're tight, I can't run mine very low for fear of smacking my sump. Plus it's pretty tight on the bonnet too.

Also, my servo's been relocated, as has my battery.

It's far from an easy conversion, you'll have all that hassle doing a 2.0 as you will a 20vt.

personally i'd do a 1.4 16v conversion.

look at a thread by bantan for how non-simple it is with pretty pictures for you

if your polo is completely shot then why not just drive round in the ibiza instead?? far better handling car than a 6n polo imho

if it's a 2l 8v then it's in no way worth all the hassle, you might as well just do a 1.4 16v conversion which is not far off the performance and will be plug and play fitting wise. just doing this conversion because the car is local is no reason to be doing an engine conversion, especially one that is so badly suited to the car.

if it's the 2l 16v then that makes it much more worth while but still as much of a ball ache.

hmm cheers. it wont be me doing it, it will be someone who works in a garage who knows what there doing. and its a 2.0 16v, also i wont drive the ibiza because of insurance plus i like my good old polo tbh :) and i would put a 1.4 16v in but i would have to find a decent 1 for good money were as the ibiza i could maybe make most of my money back breaking the car. i was only asking btw not being clever or anything so i dont need to look at pretty pictures thanks.

surely even if you get it to fit, the insurance on a polo with that engine will be more than the ibiza?

2l 16v in a mk4 polo should be pretty rapid tbh

yeah but they what know its a 2.0l they will think its a 1.4 and ill be very careful or in due time sell the car. and hopefully it wont be too bad tbh

yeah well unless they get someone out to check the car then weres the problem? tbh i wouldnt be the only 1 doing it. theres plenty of people who have cars registered as smaller engines then they actually have

if you crash and kill/injure someone the police and your insurance will give your car a full

inspection and find your 2 litre 16v then void your insurance.

you will have pay them thousands in compensation because your insurer won't.

you'll be fucked for the rest of your life!

I'm somewhat sceptical as to how far the pikey approach has gotten him now.

For a start you're posting all this on a public forum that anyone can read, with your name and location listed...

If you can't afford to insure it then don't bother, simple as.

To be fair who needs insurance when you're gonna be careful...

:?

Seriously?

If he was gonna be careful and not drive fast why would he want a 2 litre engine instead of his existing one?

Hardly the choice of someone who wants to drive totally carefully all the time!

Edit: Just realised the sarcasm richoco :p

I'm pretty sure everyone tries to be careful not to crash!

hmm tbf its right. so i think the whole idea could cost me a bit to much money and could be a regret. so cheers for the advice people. lets see if i can find a smaller engine to put in it then.

that's a popular misconception

if he was found guilty of killing/injuring some one in those circumstances, his insurance wouldn't cover him for obvious reasons so if he had no assets/savings, the compensation would come out of the 'victims of crime' fund (pretty sure that's it's name). this would go straight to the victim/family and the convicted driver would only be liable to pay this if they came into a fair amount of cash, the debt would be sold on to debt recovery company at some point towards the end of the 5 years, they would threaten the convict with empty threats until the 5 years is up and the debt is wiped clean.

on top of this he would no doubt be banned if he had been convicted of a driving offense, but once this ban is up he can retake his test then carry on as normal. of cause his ban would be on his license for a few years (iirc most convictions stay on for 5 years but the more serious ones like death by dangerous is 10 years?), but that's even if it comes back on your driving license when you reapply for it.

so to sum up even in the worst case scenario that he was charged with death by dangerous driving, it's only going to effect him driving wise for ten years from the date of his conviction.

on the flip side, if he was done for the same thing but was fully legal and fully covered by his insurance it would be exactly the same apart from his insurance would cover the compo claim and the victim/family would get more compo. this would be because they are claiming from a person/company rather than a government fund so (for injury at least), the victim can claim loss of earning ect on top of the initial claim.

just thought i'd straighten that out for you
