Done! Thanks to everyone who helped!

no offence, but if you didnt kno that it was oil on the grownd, how to know if there was enuf oil in it ect ect, u obv dont know anything about cars, if i was you it would of been safer to just bring it to a mechanic. leave thing to the people who know. its just safer.

fair play tho that you tackeld it, well done..

but seriously, what age are you? that first post made me wet myself laughing..lol

Haha, thanks for your comments. I've had the car for 2 weeks, it came with no manual and I just wanted to check with people who knew about the dipstick. As for the oil on the road - it had been raining and had washed it away so it was very thin - and there's no harm in double checking is there? I do know enough about cars to have been able to fix a lot of things on previous vehicles I've owned - I just don't claim to know everything - that's what these forums are for!

Yeah I did tackle it and I fixed it no problem.

What age? Old enough to know how to write a clear and understandable post so that anyone can read it and respond. I fail to find the comedy that your incontinent self found.
