£30k a year I wish. Not even half that. This month i may end up walking 16 miles to and from work because i cant afford the fuel!

Insurance is based on 'risk' factors depending on the type of person they think you are aswell as the car you want to drive. It also depends on the how they categorize modded car, i.e. = son of satan. If your gonna mod you car, choose a mod friendly insurance first before you buy it, insure it then think... doh! brentacre, HIC, Adrain flux to name a few.

I see 1litre modded Corsas and saxos driven through coningsby village (30mph) at at 60plus. Heck, even been hounded down by two corsa boy racers how shot past, handbraked turned in the road and came after us (us doing 50mph in a NSL) trying to bait a race by ramming our rear bumper and side by side turn in's. Sane people dont do this... but its ok for them as half they 1.0l red topped corsa's aren't insured so dont give a toss. Our pride and joy on the other hand...

As has been said time and time again on this thread. End of the day if you can't afford to insure in the first place, why mod it to go faster and believe you are a good driver and therefore will never crash? It only takes someone else not paying attention or other to hit you and your just a passenger in a worldwind of an insurance fraud nightmare. Believe me mate, i struggled to pay insurance on a modded polo CL (NZ) when i was at uni and working all the hours god send at sainsburys stacking shelves to run it legally having known a mate in a 200bhp renault 21 Turbo get down and lose his licence for 2years. Hell, I'm on around £35K a year now (30yrs old), wife, kid on the way, mortgage, etc... and I still cant justify buying a semi decent car and modding it, let alone running it.

Well then young drivers should have a personal, volutary assesment, where an individual is tested and judged using meetings etc etc. Maybe it should go as far to looking into a persons grades and recent school reports... Then the genuine risks and none risks can be identified, not just all youngens being made to pay the ridiculous amounts.

People who do not want to take this test can pay the going rate. If the individual was to pay the cost for this test, it will still work out a hell of alot cheaper for them than paying 2k insurance for their first years insurance on a 1.0 lupo...

Car modification should have a set rate for everyone, eg +£50 for allows worth under £300, as if the drivers 18 or 80, alloys will catch the eye of a theif just as much

richhasbigtits, you have no idea about the cannabis trade in this country mate. I could probably name about 20 people from my estate alone that grow weed to sell on. The money they make on it doesn't then go to propping up the bomb making or sex trades, it goes in to propping up Currys, homebase and local take aways

the powers that be are just trying to scare people in to grassing up people that grow it by telling them that it funds terrorists. Just like they tried to with pirate dvds, at one point every one knew some one that was doing that, i don't know about you but non of the people i knew that did it were terrorists

And to all these people talking about drugs, where has that come from? My attitude to drugs is fairly liberal but a forum dedicated to POLOs is not really the place to voice your opinion

the op voiced his opinion that people who smoke weed are scum and that they are suporting terrorisum. Thats where that came from.

I smoke, but you cant say that weed isn't a drug - Yes its a natural plant, but its still a drug.

Just like Ibuprofen is a drug and Calpol is a drug. Marijuana has medicinal uses as well as recreational uses.

A lot of people believe the reports the government publish and the bad image it is given. - i.e. Smoking weed will make you go crazy and funds terrorism!

I believe this could be somewhat true, but only in people that have an underlying issues. The amount of people smoking marijuana has increased, Yet the amount of people with Mental issues that could be related to this have stayed the same...

I agree with you that Alcohol is a lot worse, Just take a saturday night for example, All the trouble caused by alcohol and the great cost to the taxpayer because of this (police + cleanup) If everyone was smoking marijuana, there would be so little trouble, if any.

In the long run as well, Alcohol is so much worse - Heart Disease, Liver Problems, Much more alcoholic's than people addicted to marijuana... because marijuana isn't addictive.

Lol that was a bit of a stoned rant last night, I know it's a drug but it's a soft drug less harmfully to you than ciggarttes and booze. When I think of drugs I think of man made drugs that have been created for the benifit of humans.

Weed just happens to be a plant that gets you high and is a drug because of the people who are selling it.

Saying that most people who sell weed aren't criminels at all, just need to make extra money in hard times to support their familes, and since the reccession even more people have started to grown and sell, 9 millin people smoke in the uk so there is big money to be made, shame the goverment aren't clever enought to take advantage of this and make millons in tax's and safe smokeing for all the pot heads.
