Antiroll Bar knocking....since i lowered it!?! HELP

Featured Replies

Lowered my car (6n2 gti) on coilovers about a week ago and now theres a horrible knocking and rubbing noise!

I noticed the antiroll bar is hitting on the body, and its not even that low. The coillies are less than 1/4 wound down!

Is this a common problem? I have seen loads of gti's a lot lower with no problems.

The gti anti roll bar is 22m and the 1.0 6n2 roll bar is 18mm. Will this be enough clearance so it doesn't hit?

Any suggestions/help very much appreciated!

Have you got shorter drop links on there?

Have you got shorter drop links on there?

No, standard ones.

Have a look on ebay for shortened drop links.

I'm not sure which you need for the 6n2 maybe check out the search.

But getting a set of them will cure your problem!

Is there deffinatley shortened ones available? as the antiroll bar bolts right on to the lower arm.

Its not like, say a mk4 golf where theres long drop links which come down. If you no what i mean lol

Dont think they have droplinks.

Have you checked it's secured properly? There's some sort of plate that holds it in place, maybe thats missing or loose?

Ahh, I'm just using my experience with 9n

so it may be completely different!

Its all secure and bolted down. i've had it on the ramps numerious times this week and no one can work out how to fix it!

Its because its been lowered but its not even that low lol

Like i said before, will the 18mm anti roll bar from a different 6n2 give me enough clearance? And is it the same length, fitment etc ...

Just remove the ARB. This topic has come up many times before.

What a stupid thing to say. You're wanting to remove an ARB from a front wheel drive car. Yeah good luck with that.

Pot... kettle... black?

If it was an older car which used the ARB as part of the suspension wishbone links, then you might be speaking sense, as he's talking about a 6N2, it's got a proper lower wishbone and doesn't "need" an ARB. If it's got stiffer springs, then you can probably get away without an ARB at all (plenty of kit cars, don't have them)

I'm just wondering is your gti lowered and have you got this problem? I dont really want to remove it, but quite a few people have said this and i cant put up with the rubbing noise anymore! lol

I have raised my suspension even more today and its still rubbing!

This cant be right, its so far up now lol

My anti roll bar has now been removed but the noise is still there!! It was really obvious it was knocking as theres bad rub marks on the chassis.

Really have no idea whats rubbing!

Anyone got any ideas??

could you see rub marks on any other parts?

dude mine does it to and i have changed the roll bar and mounts and wishbones but keeps coming back, i have just learned to live with it, just does it when i accelerate..

Dimz

are you sure its not the driveshaft knocking on the inner wing?

I have posted a similar topic just the other day however it is with a 9n

Cant for the life of me find where its coming from =/

nope definitely not the drive shaft, basically the way i see it is, when we lowered our cars we are putting force on the bushes and joints in an inverted manor, they have been designed to work like that so they creek, moan and bitch and cry, when you change your car from manufacturer you half the life expectancy of the components..

Just my opinion, i lowered mine 100mm so i will deal with the consequences :p But my next car is staying as is lol..

Yeah deffo not the drive shafts, and i cant see any other marks anywhere! I was so sure it was the ARB lol.

It only does it when I'm going slow speeds whether I'm turning or not. Maybe the road noise just covers it up :?

Need to get to the bottom of this! lol

mine does it only when i accelerate and brake, oh and i discovered a new noise lol, its a rotational creaking noise lol solve that 1! lol i'm going to get underneath my car this week and ill let you know to be honest i'm just going to start by freeing the anti-roll bar let it get comfortable lol then tighten it back up :) lol i got a feeling its the mounts that are knackered..

I let you know..

Do you have rub marks on your chassis? Mine started to get really bad and they only been on like 2 weeks! Theres not much difference in handling with the ARB off so you could just do that :-D
