Ok so just bought said manifold and a couple of us were having a gander at it wondering how to fit it, I don't want a decat pipe fitting just wanna fit the manifold! This is the manifold

I know there is usially another bit to this but can I buy a fitting kit for this and cut the old cat pipe and fit it?

Any suggestions?

I want a manifold but to keep the cat.

Could you cut the cat and sleabe it onto the manifold?

on mine i chopped the flange thing off and welded a flexi joint on then welded that to the cat

Nice one! Did you use that extra section that come with the new Mano? I don't have that and woul like to be able to keep the manifold detatchable without having to take of everything else!

yeah i did its welded to the cat side of the flexi joint.

i wanted to keep the manifold separate but i had to get rid of the joint and replace it with a flexi because it was transmitting vibrations through the car and it was always blowing.

ok so I'm thinking manifold cut n sleeve the end have a bit of pipe then a flexi (clamp it together at the sleeve)

Anyone else shed some light?

you can sleeve and clamp it but you need to get a reducer as the outlet of the mani is 51mm

and the rest of the exhaust is about 43mm

welding is best imo :-)

the centre bore of my manifold is 45/46mm and the outside of it is 51mm

rest of the exhaust on mine seems to be 40mm,

heres what i have designed so far

from my reckoning if i cut that flange bit off the end of the mani get a 51mm flexi and weld it on the end of the manifold and then weld a 51mm to ??? reducer and sleeve and clamp that on befor the cat?

what do you reckon?

yea i think ill definately measure twice n cut too long on this one haha

next question is where to get manifold gaskets???

And does anyone know the size of the cat pipe?

Pepe I'm thinking of doing this to my car but nowhere will fit an aftermarket manifold!

i had a mate who lived in sunderland and he drove over to newcastle to a place called Advanced Automotive Systems

they make manifolds and fit them so they shouldnt have a problem doing it, i think most are probably scared (as am i) of snapping the manifold studs lol

ok so heres my concoktion!

just needs welding up then fitting!!

looks alright but make sure the everything will clear the subframe before welding and you might

have to extend the lambda sensor cable

I'm pretty sure it will coz it's actually shorter than the normal 4 branch and that extra pipe that bolts on! Di you have any clearance issues?

finished!

just need to get a clamp then its ready for fitting tomorrow evening touch wood!

last question! how much if any does the lambda probe wiring need extending? cheers

you'll know when you come to fit it, just get a length of wire, wont be much at all

well yea thats very true! just thought i could save alot of hassle n extend it tomorrow morning when I'm off work so its just a bolt off bolt on job with abit of cutting of the old zorst

to be fair, id do it at the same time, so you can make sure the wires just long enough with a bit of excess for exhaust/engine movement when its running, might be worth getting some heat resistant loom tape to tape up the wires.

if you extend it off the car it might be too long, or too short, which will be a pain!

Ok well I have "fitted" the 4 branch! I nackered the lambda! (wouldn't even comeout with heat so I man handled the idiot and stripped the threads of inside!) so I had to get one and I could only get one from a 1.3 aer (mines an aex how much difference will it make??? Will be rectified shortly!

Also for peoples future refference downpipe diameter before and after the cat is 45mm not 43 this caused some problems with my design (the reducers smallest size was 45mm which I thought would have been just enough to fit over the oe pipe work! But it was the same! but wasn't hard to sort

it's rattling on the heat shields like mad stood still because the mani/ cat joint needs shortening, I will recify that aswell if I'm honnest it was a bit of a ball ache

With regards to wiring the lambda it took 3x the oe lenght! I ran this round the back of the engine (right hand side where plug is located and used the loom trunking to house it! Then it drops straight down onto to mani and screws in
