Common bad points:

5th gear bearing, clutch pedal can snap off (can get repaired by vw for free), ABS faults- especially rear sensors failing.

the 1.4 16v came in two states of tune- 75 and 100bhp. The 100bhp one is engine code AUB and came with these alloys :

The 16vs were often specced with lots of toys, like sunroof, a/c , esp etc. However, i'd prioritise getting a lower mileage model to avoid problems over gadgets.

I've seen a nice 1.4 16v one with 65k on it i think

just had new box and clutch

not sure if its a 75bhp one or 100bhp one tho

anyway i could find out by looking at it because its on coilovers and got different wheels to the 1 in the pic

i know its got elec windows , no sunroof, 1.4 14v in the engine cover

thanks :)

Open the boot, there's a sticker under the carpet that has the car's paint code and engine code on it, AUB is the 100bhp one , i can't remember what the 75's code is.

personaly id got for the 8v even though its slow nothing ever goes wrong with em also the tdi is pretty good

sorry for thread hijack but do VW fix all 6n2 pedal boxes for free? i heard GTi's only somewhere...

Id go with TDi as they're supposed to be reliable and have great mpg and can be remapped to like 99bhp. I have an 8v one and its ok but lacks a bit in power.

ye i think its only gti's mate.

yes it is, just the GTI's they still repair for free.

Buy a GTi you goon and stop being a pussy!

whats the point it will only drink more petrol, cost more to insure, cost more to tax etc. Surely a TDi would be better with its economy and performance.

Unless your just going for performance in which case buy a G40 :p

i have a polo 1ltr only 50bhp but gets me from a-b for the past year and a half :) Up for sale next month though for a quicker car

they dont drink that much fuel, Dont cost that much more to insure

Sometimes its worth paying a little more for a little more fun than a tractor :)

i aint said I'm not getting a gti yet :-D its just cant seem to find one i like :/ and a 1.4 16v has come up which i like :)

The TDI is a fantastic little motor, and once chipped/mapped is easily as quick as 16v! Plus 60mpg !

I've got the 1 litre, It's just what i need, cheap insurance, 55mpg. but if you want a bit of performance aswell, go for the TDI, £35 road tax with 100bhp after remap...

I have the 75 bhp engine code is AUA hope this helps!

The 100bhp models usually have front fogs as standard, as well as a little 16v sign on the front grill.

I know someone with a red openair colour concept. She's had it for donkeys and its starting to stand out as a particularly mint example.

I dont know what engine it has because quite frankly it doesn't matter. Its an open air colour concept, with red leather, and its gorgeous.
