The snotrocket! Featuring scrapcat ;)

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

thought i'd throw some pics up of my polo which i've nicknamed the snotrocket because of the colour lol! I bought it as a Cat C write off, and MOT'd it on the way home, and it passed immediately, only needing the rear numberplate lights changing as the bulbs had blown :o Not bad for a shed with 127k!

Anyway after a month of trying to sell the thing i gave up and just decided i'd play with it. Initially i was tempted to matt black it but i cant bring myself to do it as i'd spent a week polishing just one side of the car by hand :| So it sat in the garage. I decided to look for a speaker grill and heater vent, as well as some panels for dads car at the scrapyard when i noticed that some poor cat had been just dumped :( So i took him home and he's now called scrapcat!

He lives in my rear tow eye ;)

Then yesterday, in less than half hour, me and dad swapped the rear coilovers off his cordoba estate onto my polo and he had my stocks back :D So now the back is 60mm lower, the fronts we're not looking forward too but we're gonna try them tomorrow hopefully :)

List of mods so far then:

TA Technix coilovers

Polished rear badges up to black

Front badge painted black

Smooth boot (not fitted yet)

Scrapcat ;)

And here are some pics for you all going through various stages:

Nice Pistachiolo!

Poor cat!

Thanks mate. I'm not a fan of the colour personally, i would've preferred white, but i bought this and i'll live with it. Besides if it bugs me that much i have access to a spraygun etc :) For now though, it's unusual, it shines well, and i've called it the snotrocket so the names stuck to it. I can't have a white snotrocket can i? Unless i argue that the snots now white because of the overspray... Meh :D

As for the cat, i know, but it loves the wind in its fur so its right at home now :D

Thanks mate, think i'm gonna add a couple more layers of lacquer, as it went to a light orange peel after it dried, so i'll add some more then lightly sand back, then polish it like i've nothing to live for :)

Haha polishing is very rewardong on such old paint, i found clay barring made a HUGE difference on its own though ;)

Pictureless update

Got some TA Technix coilovers for free off my dads old Cordoba estate, he hated them, i wanted them, so we swapped :) Pretty much straightforward, only took about an hour and a half all in for both but we didnt do them all today :) Fronts so low now its settled i'm questioning if it'll steer tomorrow... time will tell :D

Now... who wants to donate some 13x7 minilites with 175/50/13 tires? :D

Another quick update!

Thanks :) Let me know what you think. Next up is 16v bumpers imo!

EDIT: Which caps do you prefer on my rims (look at the side pic), the black VW ones or the silver VW ones? I'm thinking towards the silver ones?

Edited by slyboogie

i like this color looks cool

silver caps man

Cheers guys, i will be respraying the wheels if i dont sort some new rims out soon. I may respray it in black at some point but for now its a bit unusual. Only gonna respray as i love how black ones look, and i have a few dings around the car to sort out anyway :)

Right, stripped the rear coilies off today to try and sort the rear level problem out. No matter what they just WERENT going low! In the end i stripped both back down to bare, then rebuilt then back up so they were identical. Fitted them both on the lowest settings (with helpers and bump stops still in) and 1 side is proper low now (Drivers) but the passenger is still not as low, perhaps 1/4 to 1/2 inch higher! Definitely lower than it was though!

So, any thoughts? Hoping it'll settle down but i dont think it will yet. If anyone has any ideas please let me know :)

Just noticed thanks to the slope in my garages it looks level, but the last pic shows how low the driverside really is!

Btw to drop a bombshell - did i ever mention the fact i plan on walling this with four 15's and just shy of 2000w RMS to the subs alone? ;)
