1.4 16v AFH Engine - 85k only 130 quid, or 100 quid minus cams!

Featured Replies

Possibly up for sale this weekend is my 1.4 16v AFH Engine.

It has done 80k and was bought of Bantan, who have removed it from his R reg 6n for a KR conversion. I have done 5k since feb/march.

If i get a buyer, i will remove the engine on friday ready for collection, but a non-refundable deposit of 25% MUST be paid up-front to save any messers.

Whats included :-

BARE Engine & Block, including timing belt covers, rocker cover, sump and everything inbetween bar spark leads. I have the alternator mount and tensioner, and pas pump available for free.

it had new spark plugs, leads and fresh oil filter and 5w/40 fully synthetic oil 4k ago.

Basically my gearbox has sprouted a leak, and i have a 1.6 16v with a fully working box sitting in my mk1 polo. I'm undecided as to replace the entire lump or just swap gearboxes over.

Hopefully if all comes through, ill just be able to replace the oil seals on the current gearbox and keep on driving the car with the AFH happy as larry, and i dont have to rape my mk1 polo again for parts.

reason i dont mind sticking the mk1s heart in, is i am building a 2nd engine but it wont be ready for a few weeks, and i unfortunatly cant rush it for friday.

Bad points of engine :-

No Leads - Require them for my 2nd engine

No Dizzy - Although I can supply a unknown condition AFH one for a KFC!

No Inlet Manifold - Can supply one if required complete bar TB (Incudes Fuel Rail, EGR Valve, Injectors)

No Exhaust Manifold - Can supply a polo GTI one if required

POSSIBLE headgasket failure as there is very slight bubbling in cooling tank, has been like this since i bought it, but car doesnt feel like its ever lacked in power, and no sludge in the oil. I will supply a brand new headgasket as i have one spare, originally bought for the hybrid conversion, it is incorrect for the application, so surplus.

It hasnt been replaced on the current engine, and even if i just swap out the gearbox, despite taking the engine out, i wont be replacing the headgasket, as why upset 40mpg!

Good points of engine :-

Has been running very well on a set of CBR600's for 5 months now and has covered 5k miles.

Consistently returns an average of 40 mpg, did 131 miles to 15 pounds worth of V-Power last friday. and is currently at 121 agan today and i need to refuel in the morning before i go to work. ( I only ever put 15 quids worth of super unleaded in at a time )

Pulls like a train, and sounds very well indeed.

Relative low mileage of 85k for all you sub 100k fanatics. personally if an engine is on 150k and still going strong, id be choosing that engine all day long, as its stood the test of time well. I have bought a 90k engine which has the belts and tensioners changed only 3k before and it melted a bottom end bearing, so the milage isnt a definitive guide to an engines health.

Right,

I am after 200 pounds, no offers.

I have been 110% honest in my advert, and i will tell you the honest truth in person, theres been plenty of people who have been a passenger in the car, that are on this forum, G40_AD, Vw_Nay, Karl_ClCoupe, Charlie, Tez_Mc and well as a few who've been chasing it haha.

If anyones got any serious enquires, please get in touch as i will answer any questions but i do not like getting mithered.

I have 4 days off this weekend, so can get the engine out on thursday evening at the earliest.

I will remove the advert if i decide to just replace the box, but the engine will be up for sale in the next 4-6 weeks as i will have built up its true replacement heart.

thank you and goodnight =D

cba posting max as id need the day off work, i have a pallet here and can stick it on there for a weekend collection but i can drive it down to northampton for the cost of fuel

if you can sort out the pallet collection, ill gladly shove it on one for you

absolutley TOP NOTCH engine... in the mk2 it pulls like a train would love to see its torque curve on the rolling road cos it delivers it awesomely across the rev range!

grab a bargain peeps... the full conversion (carb mani etc) would be worthwhile as you can see how it runs n its guarenteed to put a smile on your face!

this still for sale and as its pulled out coming with them throttle bodies, what about comin with gearbox too as a complete unit how much would u be looking for mate?

  • Author

please do your research first, they are CARBS not throttle bodies.

i do have a spare set of carbs for sale, as well as an inlet manifold. however the carbs pictured are NOT for sale.

no gearbox is for sale either.

anyway the engine is now out of the car, the alternator brush fan sheered off last weekend racing at the strip and smashed the relay roller which caused the cambelt to lose tension. i will be stripping it on evening next week to inspect the damage and will amend the price accordingly depending on what work is required to bring it back up to health. i may even rebuild it and either use it or sell it. i will keep you all posted

Head has a couple of bent valves, will sell head, bottom end and brand new headgasket for 130 quid, or 100 without the cams.

talk to me!

  • 5 months later...

what ever happened to this engine?????? did it ever get sold?

  • Author

blocks still available, 40 quid

I take it you no longer have the gearbox?

  • Author

box was never for sale anyway, i was running a mk3 gearbox in a mk2 coupe.

cheers

Do you still have the rocker cover off this and is it does it use the unbonded gaskets. As i have new gaskets from vw but my rocker cover has them bonded in and i have started stripping them out but its hard work and i dont want to damage the seal face. if not what year rocker cover would i be looking for to get with the unbonded gaskets so i can use my new ones as you seem to be in the know with these things if you could pm me as i may forget to check back on this.

Thanks

Peter

Do you want him to wipe your arse after a shit as well? Do some research yourself instead of asking sellers irrelevant questions

Only the block is for sale now anyway.

I assumed they were all bonded tbh.

  • Author

you can buy the gaskets from VW, they wont want to sell them to you without the rocker cover attached the bastards

You can get a gasket separately but its listed under a different engine code, one from the continent iirc. I did have the part number but lost it when I cleared out my PMs :(
