Just fitted an alpine headunit and 2 subs in the rear, I've alse upgraded all 4 speakers.

When the car is stationary the stereo is superb! it cuts out at very high volumes but thats not a problem.

When i drive with the stereo on, the tiniest bump in the road will switch it off, and then it will come back on straight after! Grrrrr!

Does anyone know how to fix this as it is the most annoying thing I've ever come across! lol

I have to swerve potholes in the road and i look like a drunk driver :p

EDIT** ORANGADAN has gave sorted where the problem is but now i just need to figure out how to fix it? any ideas?

bad earth would be the most likely cause imo

I thought that, I was wondering if anyone else has had this experiance and if its worth ripping the dash out to find where the earth wire goes... :)

might be the earth to the amplifier?

As above most likely to be bad earth, also re-check all your wiring ie: makes sure its wired tightly and all connections insulated.

What have you used as an earthing point?

The earth for the amp is a metal bolt that is on the side of the boot (where that small bit of carpet goes) if I'm honest, its not put on the bolt too well and it is exposed... but I've yanked at that wire and shook the sub and amp wiring all over the place while its switched on and it doesnt turn off. :S

Which makes me think its something behind the headunit?

My bet is you have a faulty connection behind your HU then, was it a tight fit when you put it back in the cage? you probably nudged a connection or two trying to get it back into the cage, which has left it exposed and touching the metal cage or something as you go over bumps etc.

Take the HU back out, recheck all your connections make sure you have wired everything correctly.

That or you the contact between your face off HU might be weak, go over a bump and gently push the face of the HU in place if it stays on then thats your problem.

Orangedan your the man!! When I wiggle the key quite harsh or slap the steering shroud it cuts off!! Do you know the solution to this problem??? Cheers pal!

I am having the same problem. with my olop coupe. I have not found the problem yet but it wont take me long. 4 now when you start the car and it is running in neutral turn the key back about 2 mm and it should stop. Mine also almost cuts out when i wiggle my key forward. I think that one of the componets has gone in the barrell area. so am checking all of them 1 by 1. will find the prob. i will be in touch with the solution. You going to bug jam????????. cheers dan

If everything was running off amps, I'd say the RCAs are broken on the headunit. Where the tracks inside join the main circuit board melt causing the tracks to bounce about in the holes, switching the amp on and off.

Either that or a wire shorting on the cage.

Question;

Does t happen say if you have an I-Pod or your Phone pluged in playing music though that?

If not and only wen u have CDs in it, have you tried maybe the ShockProof Case (which is the metal case around the head unit) is not the right 1?

Cuz if so the head unit will just be bouncing or in the case of the volume vibrating around to much making your CD skip!

Na mate it does it for all types of playback, ipod, radio, cd... Orangadan is right.. Its the ignition.. I've seen others with the same prob too. I've heard I can wire the headunit wire to the ignition live wire and that will sort it. Any ideas folks?
