You can fail for having an air freshener on the mirror as its obstructing the view. Just take stuff off the mirror, only takes a few seconds.

make sure you waste as much of his time as you can.

so y didnt you just jump in the car and take them off???

i went away from for some lunch and when i came back he said it failed, dont see why he couldn't just take them off. just think its stupid seen as its obvious i was just going to put them straight back on.

My lass's car failed its mot for

1) CV joint needed replacing

2)Magic tree air freshner obstructing field of veiw.

That was just on tuesday lol

That is pretty retarded to fail for that. I'm guessing you got a free re-test once you took them off, so the guy has had to waste all the time doing the failure paperwork then have to do it all again for free to get the pass paperwork.

I understand that it should be a fail, but when he can easily take them off it seems like an unnecessary waste of everyone's time.

atleast you'l know next time  :-D

Yeah the guy is an utter tit to be honest, could have easily said put your air freshner somewhere else please!

ye got re-tested straight away and it took him a hell of a lot longer then if he had of just taken it off in the first place. he was such a douche bag though, i just asked him normally why he couldn't of taken it off and he pretty much shouted at me telling me how he could lose his job because of it....

To be fair he was only doing his job, I can guarantee if he looked hard enough, or wanted to be a dick, he could have failed your car on something else that would need more than just taking an air freshener off.

Surely he could have just put it down as an advisory... Thus covering his own back too...

to be fair vosa are sending in "mystery shoppers" with cars with faults to try and find garages that give dodgy mots.

so he can lose his job and the garage can lose its ability to mot cars.

how does he know your not a vosa agent

think there looking more for slipping bribes or missing a fairly big problem..... not so things hung on the mirror. the thing i really dont get is can you get pulled for this? and sat nav's are designed to go on the windscreen....... fair enough he could of lost his job but he could have just taken them off and just told me about it.

penis end in he ! my mot station passed my car even though my wwheel bearing was fucked just put it as an advisory :p

Tbf though i do work there :ninja:

Just because you can buy something doesn't mean it's legal. I mean, you can buy aftermarket exhausts, but it IS an offence to purposely change your exhaust so it's louder.

Wow, I did not know that would make you fail an MOT, Ill remember for when mine goes in for one :)

polo once failed on 13% hand brake efficency nothing else, was very annoyed!

astra passed - its got tape holding the mirrors on - advisory "n/s & o/s mirrors have tape on but do not obstruct view beyond requirements"

18 months later & still not got round to buying new ones for it!

"Bodged not bought" comes to mind...

any discrepancy big or small can land the garage in a world of hurt and then can lose thier license, and get a huge fine, the fact you can take it in for a free retest means theres no harm done.

he cant remove it, just like the mot'r cant remove the strut top caps to check your top mounts, he just has to do it by looking from underneath by checking how much movement there is.

dont hate on a dude doing his job properly, hate on the beauracrats who set the rules up in the first place!

well i dont think its as stupid as i first thought now, i wasnt expecting as many people to say they've had the same experience. thought the guy was just been reeeally picky.

to be fair they did pop back on but seeing as I thought the plastic might be weakened I put tape on as well!!

and its a white astra with the really square mirrors its not pretty like dubs!

Best way to be.

My old car was going to fail its MOT for the towball partially obscuring the number plate. Garage removed the tow ball, chucked it in the boot and it passed.

Fucking daft, if i even suggested that at work id get laughed at
